Could equally place this in GOP thread.
Iâve always loved that the ritual requires Belloq to dress in an ephod, turban, robe, the tunic with the glass bits, and a pectoral. Heâs in full old Hebrew regalia!

If you let your child dress up at Hitler, youâre almost certainly a terrible person.
This may be the case, I didnât see the actual costume. I figured it was pretty identifiable as Hitler.
Itâs just normal clothes and an armband. And maybe a fake mustache.

Isnât the Hindu one the reverse of the German one?
I think Iâve seen them go both ways for purposes of symmetry. Nazi ones always go clockwise, I think.

I still gotta fault, minimally, any adult who saw that for more than 5 seconds and didnât throw that kid into the principalâs office.

I am not even sure they can do that. Thatâs a public school right?
We have this weird thing in our schoolâs where they seem to have no problem policing natural hair and girls from showing skin but as soon as they go beyond that they get hit with free speech lawsuits.
I donât see how any adult could let that child walk around doing that and then not respond to it, but I am not clear on what kind of responses they are allowed to do anymore. When I was in school, girls went to the principal office for wearing a t-shirt that said unbutton my fly⌠which was actually marketing for, was it Levi then? But again, policing girls has always been a favorite.

I dunno, but I guarantee that if some kid started walking around dressed as Hitler when I was a kid, he would have gotten thrown in the principalâs office instantly.
Although, back in the 80âs and 90âs, seemingly everyone agreed that the Nazis were in fact the bad guys whose only purpose was to be punched by Indiana Jones, or run off the road by the Blues Bros., so maybe times are different now.
Canât wait for DJT to denounce that man in the strongest possible terms via tweet. What a shit country.

Though public school students do possess First Amendment freedoms, the courts allow school officials to regulate certain types of student expression. For example, school officials may prohibit speech that substantially disrupts the school environment or that invades the rights of others. Many courts have held that school officials can restrict student speech that is lewd.
I think you could safely argue that a swastika and nazi hand signals disrupt the school environment.

Yep. Seemed disruptive enough to go viral at least.

They definitely can. Kids have few rights at school, specifically so that discipline can be maintained. You know like if some little shit was running around dressed as Hitler and disrupting things. Or bullying other kids. Or just being disruptive in general.
They can have their shit searched without a warrant, their speech curtailed, etc, etc.
There are limits, but if the school can claim something âmaterially and substantially interferesâ with school operations, they can stop it. Pretty sure dressing as Hitler and throwing Seig Heils around easily qualifies.
Yeah if they werenât allowed to stop hate speech directed at others I donât think they could really teach anybody anything.

Itâs the disruption part thatâs vague and helps, but we have⌠court cases on this stuff:
In our system, state-operated schools may not be enclaves of totalitarianism. School officials do not possess absolute authority over their students. Students⌠are possessed of fundamental rights which the State must respect, just as they themselves must respect their obligations to the State. In our system, students may not be regarded as closed-circuit recipients of only that which the State chooses to communicate. They may not be confined to the expression of those sentiments that are officially approved. In the absence of a specific showing of constitutionally valid reasons to regulate their speech, students are entitled to freedom of expression of their views.

I am not disagreeing, but itâs not as if they can just do whatever they want in this area.

Sure, but dressing as a Nazi and theowing Seig Heils is easily within their purview. Just as running down the halls screaming obscenities would be. Or yelling ethnic slurs.

This is kind of a weird line to be taking since itâs obvious that school admins could have done something. This is why the principal and others were suspended. If the school district was concerned about the 1st amendment they wouldnât have basically admitted that they screwed up.
