I don’t know many older people, and the number of those from the military is a smaller subset as well, but I’ve met at least a half dozen 55yo+ dudes who idolize the marines and are also total pieces of shit. I don’t think it’s a particularly representative sample, but it has given me a healthy dose of skepticism towards the “responsible military dude with all the honor” trope.
It’s personal for me, my uncle hated trump and his bs in AC. He was pretty nasty (heh, marine w/ 3 tours in Nam does that), but he hated that asshole, so having the Marine colors there just hits me in the wrong way, I guess. Plus the confederate flag used to piss him off.
I think the correct reaction for anyone is to hate that they are close together, since anyone who believes in this country should hate all the other flags. I’m just not surprised because I feel like there’s a lot of overlap between old military dude and shitty conservative.

I’m not saying ignore what she does in Congress, just ignore what she says on Twitter. I’m ready for mainstream news organizations to de-platform the attention-whore-in-chief, and maybe each of us can play our part by not amplifying the voices of these fucking nutjobs.
They’re going to keep being insane among themselves, on Parler or wherever, so I’d say it’s not a bad idea to remain aware of what’s going on. Particularly in a thread like this whose very raison d’etre is to track the actions of the whackadoodle far right.
