I was not familiar with that piece of music. In the movie, the sad music really is more melodramatic than actually sad. One moment you’ll have the brother channeling the loss of his dead son through his cello, in the next he witnesses his long lost wife, oblivious and seemingly happy, and he lapses into a coma mid-stroke. That, of course, wins him the round against the Scots and their bagpipe dirge.

I just noticed that Playing Columbine is on instant view.

I think this movie is pretty darn great, and have ever since I got the filmmaker in to talk to my class and show it. It’s a documentary about the game Super Columbine Massacre RPG! that tells the story of his making it, to being accuse of sparking another school shooting, to the whole Slamdance Guerilla Game Festival fiasco. It really sparks my students because they see a world where people are discussing just what is permissible in a game, and why, and why games are or aren’t Art.

Just a really good movie that promotes discussion.

I’ve been watching episodes of Mr Bean lately. What a great show.

I think I’m about done with Netflix for a while. After the redesign I haven’t seen anything I want to watch. I’m not saying there’s causation but the timeline matches up well. Maybe they’re just not getting much new stuff.

Heh… my instant queue still has 225 things in it. I don’t think I’ll ever be done with Netflix.

I didn’t realize being done was a possibility. (346 in my queue)

Well then, share! I can’t find anything that is worth my time after finishing Top Gear.

Cold Blooded. Jason Priestley plays a weirdo who gets promoted from numbers runner to hitman. Funny, offbeat dark comedy.

Been enjoying Jericho. Great post apocalypse serial drama from 2006.

Just found out that Doctor Who season 5 is on instant play. Bout damn time!

really liked sgt frog and just started on samurai champloo.

the first is a comedic anime about alien frogs living with a family in a suburban home after their invasion plan failed.

the second is an action anime about two badass samurai (one crazy wild, the other calm and collected) helping a girl. usually once an episode there’s something i laugh at loud at.

Samurai Champloo always seemed like a not-as-good retread of Cowboy Bebop, using rap instead of Jazz as its music.

The Last Airbender movie is up on instant watch. Verdict: As bad as they say, worst movie I’ve seen in a while. Just horrible. Script, Acting, CGI, action, all terrible.

The Fighter is also up. Mostly found it boring, the boxing in it wasn’t that good.

Looks like they recently added Home Movies, an animated series from Adult Swim starring H Jon Benjamin of Archer and Bob’s Burgers fame, and Brendon Small, creator of Metalocalypse. Probably my favorite television series of all time, definitely worth checking out if you haven’t seen it before. It’s a pretty laid back, improvisational brand of comedy with some great character stuff and awesome music.

Yeah, it was horrid. Besides the terrible writing, acting, and directing, they managed to completely strip Aang of any boyish charm which was the heart of the series. To quote Chris Griffin “How is he still getting work?!”

Never saw Cowboy Beepop. Dan tried to get me to watch it, but it’s really hard to get into in the beginning. OTOH, when he brought over Samurai Champloo, I was captivated right away. I absolutely loved the series until the last episode. Kind of like Evangeleon actually, except after the last episode of Evangeleon (and the movie) I really hated that series, but after the last episode of Samurai Champloo, I was merely ambivalent about the series.

NERRRRRRD RAAAAAAGE, ACTIVATED!!!

I really dug Home Movies, I hope people give it a chance now.

If you don’t mind going in cold, get the first compilation DVD and watch Ballad of Fallen Angels. There’s a touch of plot you won’t have but I don’t think it will hurt too much. If that episode doesn’t sell you on the series then it’s not for you.

Since you finished Champloo first, you probably will have the same problem I had, but with Bebop, in that the series will feel like a retread. Oh wells. I guess the lesson learned though is that not liking Bebop isn’t an automatic out for Champloo.

I really tried to like Samurai Champloo, but it never took. Every time I saw the main characters I couldn’t help but think how much cooler Spike, Jet, and Faye were. I detested Mugen.
