Hulk vs, was pretty good, specifically Hulk vs Wolverine which was awesome and has a great version of Deadpool in it. I thought the Hulk vs. Thor segment was just ok.

I rather thought that Iron Man: Extremis wasn’t bad for a motion comic.

What is a “motion comic,” for the uninitiated? Is that a style of animation or the series name?

They take the art from a comic book, cut it into several layers and do other stuff so they can make the art move, and then add voices for the dialog/narration.

I’m imagining something like a Ken Burns documentary, where we’re slowly panning across pictures of superheroes while voice-overs speak their lines. Violin music in the background.

Oh, God. That does sound horrible. Why would anyone think that is a good idea?

Yeah. They do different warping effects to get the illusion of movement without creating new artwork. It’s frequently slightly nauseating, and never looks good.

The only other use of the tech I know of is the (mildly NSFW) Motion Gravure series, where the do the same thing to still images of Japanese bikini models. It’s…weird.

Dark Horse is doing motion comics for the Geek & Sundry YouTube Channel (Felicia Day’s channel). Go here to see an example of motion comics.

Geez, I get a real Clutch Cargo/Space Angel vibe from that. Note to you youngsters, that is not a good thing.

On the Clutch Cargo thing, I vaguely remember a horrible animated show from when I was a kid that had static animation and real human lips… Something on a submarine with a gray palette.

Even as a 5-year-old with such low standards that I thought Lost in Space was great SF, it horrified me and I hated it.

There was some show I watched in the 70s maybe early 80s that was essentially motion comics. They were mostly using B level heroes though I forget if it was Marvel or DC, or some other company from the time. I feel like the show itself was actually probably from early than that too, but was just rerun. I need to hunt down what it was now. Hmm, it might have bee The Marvel Superheroes from 66 but even that looks more animated than what I remember.

I’ve really enjoyed the couple motion comics I’ve “watched” (mostly I’m just listening and the screen is vaguely in my field of attention), but I can see finding them really annoying when they’re not marked as such.

Now that I think of it, the first instance of motion comics was probably some Flash animations made by Stan Lee Media in the early internet days, like “The Accuser”, a comic about a crippled defense attorney with a magic wheelchair that turns into an Iron Man suit.

Apparently they also invented the word “webisode” to promote those. They were pretty bad, though.

The Stan Lee Media story is pretty amazing, actually. It reminds me of professional wrestling.

We just watched one called scorched (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0286947/) that was pretty good. About three bank employees that decide to rob the same bank the same weekend. Don’t look for anything deep from it, but worth watching.

almost a hundred live concerts and album/band documentaries were added.

OMG, Korn Live at Montreux!!1

Wasn’t that supposed to be a serious festival at one point?

Watched the two Hulk films last night, both were pretty good but not great. Planet Hulk is more “Hulk as a hero” where Hulk Vs. showed the “Hulk as unstoppable force of anger”, which I prefer.

Question: What’s the deal with goat-Thor?

I watched the Disraeli Gears documentary–recommended. Clapton is God.
