I recall day of the beast being pretty good, though I forgot about it until now. On par with , say, Cronos or something, so very enjoyable but I guess forgettable to an extent.

New Arrested Development season out today! Discussion in the TV forum. No spoilers please!

Whatever you do DO NOT WATCH Starship Troopers 3. Just a public service announcement.

I guess this means I have to watch the early seasons of Arrested Development now. Just so that I can join in on Season 4.

I am going to recommend “Kumare: The True Story of a False Prophet.”

This is a documentary film in which a film director in his search for sprituality pretends to be a Yoga Guru in Arizona, and after gathering a group of disciples decides to reveal his true identity in “The Great Unveiling Ceremony”. Some of it is slightly uncomfortable to watch and the results are in the least a little thought provoking, in regards to the journey and the effects on both the fake guru and his disciples.

I think you need to get a dictionary and look up the words “Best”, “Horror”, and “Film”, because that absolutely sucked.

There was a 2?

And a 4.

And a CGI movie, too.

And an animated TV series, although I hear it wasn’t bad.

The Roughnecks TV show wasn’t bad.

I remember liking the animated series, but is was like ten years ago that I saw it.

I’m not as much a fan of the movie as some, but it’s a pretty good attempt at creating the same type of “horror” found in The Wicker Man. It certainly didn’t suck. I can understand where it might not be everyone’s cup of tea though. It doesn’t hit you with a cat jumping into the scene every few minutes, nor does it stop the narrative every 15 minutes or so to painstakingly explain every detail of the story in case you lost track.

It also doesn’t feature a bunch of gore and a gaggle of snotty teenage protagonists, so I can understand Mr. 113’s confusion.

I also wasn’t crazy about Kill List, but Ben Wheatley’s latest movie, Sightseers, is doing a limited run in the US. I heartily recommend it, particularly if you’re a fan of Alice Lowe from Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace.

Ok, I watched Lovely Molly. Great atmosphere, some very creepy moments. The story was crap and the pacing was glacial. The few interesting and weird moments that do occur don’t go anywhere and are never explained.

wtf was the deal with

WTF was the deal with the deer? How did it get into the space above the basement? Thing must weigh several hundred pounds, who put it there? Also, I frickin’ HATE this ending – “oh, she’s just been driven crazy! OR HAS SHE!?!”

On the other hand I watched “The Awakening” recently. Still somewhat slowly paced, and the reveal is sort of out of left field (but at least there is one). Some interesting characters though. And I liked the sort of mystery/detective angle to it (at least for the first half). Don’t know if I’d recommend it, exactly, but as far as “horror” movies which are more about atmosphere than gore and monsters, I liked it much better than Lovely Molly. Although I do have to admit they viciously overused the “character unexpectedly walks across the foreground” shot.

Well, I just got the US version of Netflix and wow you guys have some nice movies! That, combined with the danish selection of Netflix which also has some great shows the US doesnt (Dexter, Californication, The Dark Knight Rises) means that I probably have to quit my job.

We just saw Safetey Not Guarenteed and wants to see John Dies at the end next up, since those are US only. Its interesting that a danish movie like A Royal Affair is on the US netflix, but not on the danish.

It’s all down to who has the distribution/streaming rights to the movies in each jurisdiction, and whether Netflix happens to have a licensing deal with them.

It’s too Bad that “Let me in” isn’t available for streaming. I saw that one recently, and liked it quite a bit.

On streaming my current guilty pleasure is watching the original Mission: Impossible series. That show really had it going on. Music, style, over-the-top plots. It’s actually aged pretty well, IMO.

I’m not sure how long this has been the case, but End of Watch is up. Extremely well done semi-found footage “buddy cop” movie, although it’s not nearly as cliched or timeworn as that descriptor might suggest. It was on at least one best of 2012 list from Qt3’s movie podcast (I think Dingus’).

Joe, if you liked “Let Me In”, you really owe it to yourself to see the original (and by most accounts vastly superior) Swedish version, which -is- up for streaming: Let the Right One In.

Watching season 1 of Longmire now. I like it. In a way it reminds me of the Jesse Stone made-for-TV movies Tom Sellek makes, though the Lingmire stuff seems to have better plotlines.
