That’s one of the reasons why I only watch Hulu Plus on Xbox One now. During the ads I completely concentrate on the game. And then if I want to concentrate completely on the show after the ad is over, I snap Hulu Plus to full screen (and the game is not affected, it continues from where I paused it whenever I switch back to it on the next ad break).
Does Hulu still lock out some shows from anything but the browser on a computer? That was a deal breaker for me. “Here’s our iPad app! You can’t watch some things on it, for some reason!”
30 Rock used to be the only show that I watched on Hulu where that was the case. After that series ended, I haven’t encountered anything else with that requirement. But that doesn’t mean they don’t still have that, just that I haven’t run into it.
I’ve seen a few. NBC’s Hannibal is one that’s only on the web even if you have Hulu Plus.
Hah, so like the last time I checked (Community at the time), it’s only the select few shows that I want to watch that are limited.
Also, Hulu Plus doesn’t let you watch the whole season of most shows correct?

Actually, Hulu Plus’s main selling point is that it -does- let you watch the whole season of most shows and the entire run of some. (That and the Criterion Collection.) If they’d only let you do it without ads.
It depends on the show. Some newer shows networks only let Hulu show for about 2-3 months. Other shows you can watch everything and it never expires. That’s how I prioritize what to watch. Whatever expires the soonest gets watched first, and the stuff that never expires gets watched when there are no expiring shows left in the list.
I’ve been trying to watch Farmed and Dangerous, the Chipotle food farce on Hulu. I actually kinda like it, but only see part of each one, since I get 5 minutes then something like 10-15 minutes of adds and “extra” content, and I just won’t sit through it.
It seems like half my queue has disappeared now. I guess I put off watching those movies for too long. A few movies that were added back into my queue after many years: Taxi Driver, which I’ve never seen. Also Capote, Donnie Brosko, Zapped, French Connection II. So it’s a good comeback for classics (sort of) that I’ve never gotten around to.
On one of the recent podcasts I heard Christien talk about Hard Eight which is a PT Anderson movie I hadn’t seen. It is now on Netflix and certainly worth a watch. He was so right about Philip Seymour’s cameo(?) in it. Highly recommend.
They’re taking away 24 on April 1st. I didn’t even start season 1 yet. My own queue has been losing a lot of entries since the new year, and I don’t see as much to replace it in return. I wonder if it’s time to let Netflix go?
Hmm, maybe after House of Cards Season 2.

I ask myself this very question. There’s just nothing worth watching that I can’t get on Prime, and way too much dreck to sift through. It seems like I could buy a month of Netflix every six months and catch up on everything decent they have.

I highly recommend Narco Cultura. I’ve been waiting on this one for a while and it doesn’t disappoint.
I first heard about narcocorridos after they featured one on an episode of Breaking Bad. They’re Mexican folks songs…but they glorify the lives of violent drug lords and such. The drug gangs even commission singers to create them and push to get them played on some radio stations in Mexico. It’s pretty screwed up.
Anyway, go watch this documentary. It’s disturbing at times. But always fascinating.
I got an email from Netflix this morning that has had me so giddy with excitement.
Season 20 of Top Gear (UK) is on Netflix U.S. Woo!
By the way, I also noticed that an episode popped up on an older season of the show that wasn’t there before. I can’t remember the season, maybe season 11? Anyway, it was a special that I hadn’t seen on BBC America or on Netflix, but it suddenly showed up recently and it was excellent: it was the Botswana special, where they take vehicles worth less than 1500 pounds each across that country.
Oh, and that reminds me, the Season 19 Africa Special has got to be my favorite special that they’ve ever done on the show so far. (Where they travel across several countries in Africa looking for the source of the Nile). I have to admit, I’ve never even given much thought to how the roads and scenery are in Africa. I’d read articles in Newsweek a few years back about how the Chinese have a major presence in the continent, helping to build excellent roads and railways in the continent, but it’s one thing to read an article, and something very different to see Hammond, Capt. Slow and Clarkson make their way across these new roads, and more importantly the old roads where the Chinese haven’t built a new road yet.

Bump with a recommendation of the movie Odd Thomas.

I watched that a few weeks ago and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I think most of that is due to Anton Yelchin. He was able to make a character that might have been cloying and obnoxious into someone you root for.
When does the xbox gold requirement get lifted from video apps?

Sometime this month. A specific date wasn’t mentioned.

Well, since some other people recommended some anime, I’ll jump in and do the same: Apparently Kill La Kill is now on Netflix. At this point the dub doesn’t even exist (although it’s being worked on), so you get it in the original language. For me that’s a plus, but ymmv, etc, etc.
Me and my daughter both loved it, so it’s obviously great, since everyone’s tastes overlap with mine.
