The banter in Gilmore Girls, especially in the early seasons, was a highpoint for me. It was no Philadelphia Story, but it at least knew where the ball park was.

I won’t blame you for that one. The humor ABSOLUTELY does it for me, but sometimes when I binge watch it the soap opera nature of it can get a little eye roll inducing. But back before Netflix and DVR, when I was watching only one episode a week, the soap opera nature of the show was just the hook to get people to tune in.

I watched 3 days to Kill over 3 viewings. I enjoyed it.

I think Luc Besson and McG are a good match for each other. McG brings a kind of kinetic energy to the scenes that a good Luc Besson movie really needs. I also like how in Taken and The Professional, you’ve got someone teaching a young girl that violence is a good way to solve some of your problems in life.

Just watched 3 Days and enjoyed. It’s too schmaltzy but I like a good action-intrigue flick. Costner’s gotten to that grizzled age where he can pull off that world-weary aging badass with some aplomb.

I’m like you, I love the humor and banter of the show most of all. But watching it again now, the soap opera elements are pretty obvious. It seems like every couple of shows, some character decides to become unreasonably obstinate about some problem they’re having in order to create the drama the writer requires for that story arc. It’s often Emily or Richard or Lorelai, but it’s also been ancillary characters Mrs. Kim or Richard’s mother (Gran, I think they call her?) or Luke…it doesn’t matter, so long as someone is being a pain in the ass.

Yup, me too. I watched last night and loved the opening action scene. I agree about Costner, but didn’t care for the evil fem lead or the happy Xmas ending.

You guys do not want to miss Kellywand’s Kevin Costner impression in the 3 Days To Kill-opsis (note that the -opsis doesn’t begin until 25-minutes into the podcast, and we don’t get any Costner until 30 minutes in).

That opening scene was fantastic. I believe this is the first movie I’ve seen that used Syberia as a setting for an action sequence like that. I love that old on-the-verge of breakdown look of the hotel, with that unique oppressive architecture as the setting.

“I’m everyone’s type”.

Short Term 12 is up for streaming, by the way. I highly, highly recommend that movie. And it’s not even my usual sort of fare.

I do agree that the dialogue in Gilmore Girls is both well scripted and well acted.

Not a lot jumps out at me. I was hoping for a lot more horror.

Witching and Bitching is the latest from one of my favorite directors, Álex de la Iglesia, director of the insanely entertaining The Last Circus. Unfortunately, it’s not nearly as good as its predecessor. Still, it’s fun enough to merit a Halloween viewing.

Considerably shorter UK list [here]](http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/features/new-netflix-uk-releases-film-and-tv-shows-coming-in-october-2014-9765276.html). Nothing spectacular, unless you’re a Doctor Who fan who for some reason hasn’t already seen last season.

Not a lot jumps out at me. I was hoping for a lot more horror.

If you’re not already familiar, check out Tim Minchin. He’s very good. And there are some excellent films in there: Paths of Glory, Galaxy Quest, Team America, Shane.

I’ve already seen most of the stuff that’s worth seeing, unfortunately. But Galaxy Quest is definitely worth a repeat view.

For some reason not on the list above but streaming starting today is series 1 of the BBC show “Peaky Blinders”. Cillian Murphy in post-WW1 Birmingham is a gangleader mixing it up with communists and the IRA. Sam Neill is a cop and Tom Hardy is apparently joining the cast for series 2, which starts soon. It’s great stuff, definitely for fans of gangster shows and historical dramas.

BTW, as someone who has…let’s just say “multiple” seasons of Gilmore Girls on DVD, you definitely want to watch this on Netflix instead. My DVDs are all 4:3, all the time, and kinda artifacty at times. The episodes on Netflix are widescreen and close to HD. Appears that all licensed music survived, too, which is important.

Sold. Just put it on my list. Cillian Murphy is one of my favorite actors. And adding Hardy just seals the deal.

It is super good but only 6 episodes - current season just started on BBC

As one uh… “multiple season owner” to another, thanks for the heads up on that one. I’ve been debating whether it would be worth it to rewatch it on Netflix, considering all the things sitting in my list, but that sounds like it would be worth it.

I was hoping for the same; I’ve been trying to follow along with the Golden Age of Horror list, but there’s quite a lot not available on streaming services, unfortunately.

Not for free, unfortunately. But there’s a decent amount on demand and even more on Netflix/Lovefilm by post.
