Thanks, I’ll have a peek.
There was one thing I saw that was pretty funny, but I can’t remember the name of it. Four french women-grocery chain workers–get into pro wrestling to help one of their friends get closer to her estranged son. It was actually very cute.

Also, avoid “Women Aren’t Funny”. A very unfunny female comedian tried to make a funny documentary about how women actually are funny and it backfired miserably. Painful to watch her try to be funny, and reinforces the title of the movie. Just terrible, had to stop watching after cringing too hard. An actual funny comedian like Tina Fey, Kristen Wiig, or Melissa McCarthy should have made it.
I watched Brick Mansions the other day. Just absolutely, horribly, amazingly bad. One of Paul Walker’s last movies, and unfortunately not a very good performance either. BM is essentially a re-make of a French movie (District B13 I think) and is kind of like Parkour-y Robocop with Escape 2000 and Escape from New York mixed in, except there are no cyborgs, robots, New York, Presidents (there IS a Mayor), or compelling actors or action. Amazingly it’s FOUR (!!) stars on Netflix, and the reality is that it should be, maybe, 2.

FWIW, Netflix star ratings are adjusted to some degree by the recommendation engine based on whether it thinks you personally would like it. Obviously it was wrong in this instance.
District B13 is worth a watch.
What’s hilarious is the star rating is not considered in the “Top Picks for” section. I’ve seen movies show up there that Netflix thinks I’ll give 1 star to…

Frank a movie about a band of crazy people, who’s lead singer wears a fake head. I kind of liked the music.
I really enjoyed Frank. The music was surprisingly good.
This isn’t so much a recommendation as a dropping jaw:
Netflix has 1) Jarhead 2, and 2) The Scorpion King 4.
The former doesn’t appear to actually have any particular connection to the original Jarhead (which I enjoyed but seems like one of the least likely movies to get a sequel imaginable), and the latter…FOUR Scorpion King movies. What.
Wasn’t Jarhead a memoir? How do you get a sequel from that?
It was, yup. A memoir about being really really bored, for the most part. And the answer is “you take a movie that’s got pretty much nothing to do with it and slap the license on it for some deeply unclear reason”.
You forgot, “And give it a popular song by Kayne West for a soundtrack!”
I liked the book a lot. The movie not so much, but I can’t remember anything specific anymore. The being bored part does sound familiar, lol. I think I got the book before I saw the movie because I liked the soundtrack so much. :)
It was a boring movie about being bored theoretically in an instance where chances are you would be anything but.

Pretty sure Jarhead 2 doesn’t have Kanye (or anyone else famous) on the soundtrack. That was certainly the bit that got me to see the original Jarhead, though.
We should probably have a sub-thread of “shows going away soon which you should watch if you haven’t already.” I’ll start with two recommendations:
[ul]
[li]The Tick (until 2/1/15): short-lived live-action superhero comedy TV show based on the comic book by Ben Edlund, who went on to work with Joss Whedon on Firefly and Angel. Patrick Warburton is damn near perfect as the eponymous hero.[/li][li]Dragon Tattoo Trilogy: Extended Edition (until 2/5/15): IIUC, the theatrical films were expanded and turned into a mini-series for Swedish television; so even if you saw the original films, it’s probably worth watching this version too.[/li][/ul]

Rarely has a show been as perfectly cast as the live action The Tick. I really hope Amazon relaunches the series with the original cast and original writers, as has been rumored.

I watched the first ten minutes or so of Scorpion King 4. Rutger Haur, man, what happened to you?

I have… seen things you people wouldn’t believe… Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those… moments… will be lost in time, like [small cough] tears… in… rain. Time… to…you gonna finish that hoagie?
Looks like Spartacus is coming back to Netflix in February, the complete run this time, along with fellow Starz series Magic City. Can’t say I’ve seen enough of the latter to judge it yet (certainly some quality nudity in that first episode, though!), but Spartacus really develops into a show that’s well worth watching once you get past the very rough first few episodes.
I recently went through all of Spartacus again, this time in chronological order. Still loved it, I think it may have hit me in the feels more than the first time I saw it. Great show.
