I seriously don’t know how I never encountered it before. The cast was amazing.
It’s got a pretty solid writer going for it, too. Which helps.

Did you know that David Mamet wrote the screenplay? I have read at least twice that he is a pretty solid writer.
;-P
True story: At one of my first sales classes, they showed us the Baldwin pep talk scene and we had a discussion about how it was positive motivation for salespeople. Instead of getting angry like Jack Lemmon, you should draw energy from that dressing down and channel that into your work. If you did that every day, you’d work your way up being Baldwin and you’d be the one motivating a salesforce.
I thought they were joking. They weren’t.
…and there is the problem with sales in general.
Yeah well Mamet also did The Edge and Spartan, which aren’t exactly sparkling tour-de-forces.
Hell, James Cameron has a writing credit for Rambo II I found out the other day (while watching Rambo II).

It’s kind of the companies that show Gordon Gecko’s speech from Wallstreet.
I mean, the speech is good, and illustrates some interesting ideas, and most definitely presents an accurate portrayal of many major corporate executives (as evident by the fact they choose to show it to recruits, confirming Stone’s claim).
But… The protagonist of the movie, through choices stemming from that ideology, ends up sobbing to his father, ruining his entire life, and going to prison.
These days they just show the entirity of Wolf of Wall Street.

Is this just me, or have the user reviews on Netflix disappeared for anybody else?
Might be a side effect of them rolling out their new web interface and probably making some other back end changes.

A Colombian remake of Breaking Bad just hit Netflix. Because why not.

Just saw the anime movie Exodus from Paradise. Pretty cool concept, and I enjoyed it. I did find the over sized boobs and minimum dress a little distracting, but its japanise anime. It is what they do. I have the same complaint about Fairy Tail (obviously a kids show, but so much cleavage!).
Netflix just nabbed Brad Pitt.
Netflix has acquired distribution rights to War Machine, the David Michod-directed drama which will star Brad Pitt as a four-star rock star U.S. military general. The character is patterned after Gen. Stanley McChrystal, for a time the commanding general of international and U.S. forces in Afghanistan. The film is a satirical comedy inspired by the bestselling book The Operators: The Wild And Terrifying Inside Story Of America’s War In Afghanistan, by the late journalist Michael Hastings.
I saw that today. I’m fascinated by that story since I’m a huge fan of David Michôd.
Brad Pitt’s okay too.

Netflix rolled out a new layout a few days ago.
I called customer service to confirm, and they now only show the average ratings of all viewers - not the rating netflix thinks I’d give it.
I find it a shame because I found the rating very useful and accurate, since I’ve been honest with how I rate my enjoyment of shows.
For example, people are very quick to 5* summer popcorn michael-bay movies or special effects extravaganzas. I don’t watch those but now I’ll see more of those recommendations :(
