Wow that sucks. I’ll have to test that. Transformers 3 used to show up as a 1.5 star movie for me. So I never watched it. I wonder what the rating will be now.
I called customer service to confirm, and they now only show the average ratings of all viewers - not the rating netflix thinks I’d give it.
That seems… nuts. If I want randoms’ opinions I can look at the IMDB rating. Didn’t they spend quite a lot of money working on that recommendation algorithm

I’m actually OK with the rating change. Netflix recommendations for me were…illogical. Kinda awkward when your parents are visiting and want to watch a movie and while you’re getting snacks in the kitchen your Mom says, “Why are you watching this Nymphomaniac show?” Dammit, Netflix! I watch one documentary on food and you have to put THAT at the top of the recommended list???
As an option, that makes sense - choose your predicted rating or the all-users rating. Or maybe show both somehow. But show only the all-users rating? Pretty dumb.
I saw this list of 10 movies you should watch before they expire on Instant Watch:
Big Fish (July 1)
Bowling for Columbine (July 1)
Cast Away (July 1)
Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead (July 1)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (July 1)
Louis C.K.: Hilarious (July 1)
Natural Born Killers: Director’s Cut (July 1)
Super Troopers (July 1)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (July 1)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (July 4)
Of these, I haven’t seen Super Troopers and Fat, Sick and Nearly dead.
I agree that the others are worth watching. Well, except for Crouching Tiger, maybe. It has sections I like, but the overall movie is a big mess.
Hilarious is still my favorite Louis CK special. Definitely fantastic.
Oh man, I didn’t realize Big Fish was on Netflix, I love that movie.
An Honest Liar - It’s a documentary about The Amazing Randi
DO NOT wiki The Amazing Randi. If you know he’s a magician, escape artist, and psychic debunker, then you’ll be going into this with the same knowledge most people do. That’s all you need. Don’t spoil it.
Pretty sure it’s been recommended before (not least on the front page by Tom), but The One I Love is pretty fantastic. Simple premise, executed beautifully with plenty of twisting and turning. And the central mystery is left mysterious, as it should be. That’s not the point.
Oh nice! Didnt know that either! Love that movie!

This is not watch instantly but it is at the top of my rental list. Please excuse the tangent. Has anyone seen Safety Not Guaranteed?
+1 to this. Really good documentary about an, eh, amazing guy. I watched it a couple of nights ago and then spent the next couple of days catching up on his speeches, interviews, etc. via YouTube.
Re: Safety Not Guaranteed
I give it a solid just okay. Helps if you are an Aubrey Plaza/Jake Johnson fan.
Solidly second it as solidly just okay.

Eugene Mirman’s new comedy special (Vegan Going to the Complain Store, I think) was pretty good, much better than his last one (Fake Underground Lab).
The customer service rep was wrong, they only show the predicted rating now.
If you want to see the average rating a current workaround is to go to the dvd site.
The Hurt Locker is coming to Netflix in August.
If you haven’t seen it, go watch the movie that forever changed Qt3.
Or don’t, you’re missing nothing.
Says you, but an almost 500-post thread filled with action, drama, and comedy says otherwise!
The thread was 500 times more interesting than the movie.
I liked Hurt Locker. But having lived through that thread once already, I no longer feel qualified to discuss the movie.
