Hey, Toy Story 3! I was not expecting that.

Wha? Time to notify the childrens.

All of Top Gear as well, except the first season. That’s a lot of good stuff right there.

four lions

haven’t watched it, but i heard about it in a thread here. trailer looked funny.

Comedy writer Christopher Morris makes his feature directorial debut with this outrageous comedy about a group of young Islamic Brits who fancy themselves bloodthirsty jihadis of the first order. The film showcases Morris’s satirical talents at their vicious best in a scathingly hilarious indictment of true believers and the social systems that create them. Viewers took note and bestowed it the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at the L.A. Film Festival.

Awesome. Now I wish I hadn’t started with Seasons 9-12. Would have been fun to start at the beginning.

It may have been mentioned already in this thread (I’m too lazy to search for it), but I’ve been watching a BBC series from 2008-2010 called “Survivors” that is actually better than I expected.

It’s a show that follows a small group of people in a post-apocalyptic world after a super-flu wipes out 99% of the population. It’s a strong mix of the setting from Stephen King’s “The Stand” and the stark reality of shows like Jericho and Walking Dead (no zombies though). Fairly well written and acted, plus it’s a BBC series which means two seasons of 6 episodes each so it’s not a huge time investment. I have no idea if a Season 3 is in the works or not.

I thought season 1 was good and I haven’t gotten around to watching season 2 yet. Does it keep the same level of quality?

I’m pretty sure I read Survivors was canceled so the second season was the last.

I enjoyed it despite there being 14 scenes where people are held at gunpoint and asked to put down their weapons.

I’m watching The Verdict for the first time. Last night it was a double feature of Jerry Maguire (not as good as I remembered) and Croupier (much better than I expected).

Yeah, I remember watching Croupier for the first time and being shocked at how good it was.

First time for The Verdict? I am jealous. Let me know if it holds up well considering we have now seen 500 courtroom Dramas since then.

Just watched this last night. Tom Hardy does an amazing job.

Wish I liked Bronson more. I certainly credit Hardy with an all-out, balls-to-the-wall performance. In terms of story and construction it seemed a little thin.

SPOILERS!!!

This was my first time. I thought it was very good, crazy that it skips the typical over-the-top gloating/cheering that you’d normally see at the end of a courtroom drama.

Pretty much, though I’m only 2 episodes into season 2 so far.

Bummer. I’d have liked to see where it was going, especially as they revealed more of the main plot with the lab stuff.

One thing that really stuck out for me with the series was the relative lack of firearms given the situation. Does the UK simply not have a lot of personal firearms use/ownership or something? If this was an American series every character, including the 11 year old kid, would be strapped with at least 3 guns each. ;-)

Yes.

Following the Dunblane massacre, the government passed the Firearms (Amendment) (No. 2) Act 1997 which means that as of 1997 handguns have been almost completely banned for private ownership

I don’t know enough to comment outside of the link, but as I have always understood it, it is hard to get 'em and own 'em and has been for some time.

Do police even carry them? I thought they do not.

I bet some people from over there may no more. ;)

Police can receive special authorization to carry a handgun but generally don’t day to day, as I understand it.

and…

Titanic 2

Titanic irony looms when the new luxury cruise liner Titanic 2, setting sail a century after the sinking of its ill-starred namesake, seems destined to come to a similarly soggy end when an ocean tsunami pushes an iceberg into its path. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration researcher Kim Patterson (Brooke Burns) and Coast Guard Capt. James Maine (Bruce Davison) lead the bid to save the giant ship and its passengers from annihilation.

It looks like seasons 13 & 14 aren’t up on Netflix yet, but they are up on the web site.

Netflix recommended me 9th Company and I watched it over the past two nights. Russian made film “based on true events” concerning the end of the old Soviet Union’s foray into Afghanistan in the 80s. Well worth a watch if you’re a fan of historical military action type films.
