Ha, that too. For guys that get into a gunfight literally every two days, they are a soft lot.

My favorite aspect of SoA is the deputy sheriff who’s always on about how some day he’s going to bust samcro.

Dude, how about the dozens of felonies you witness every fucking day as they wave their guns and 12 inch knives around all over town. Or the non stop parade of assaults.

But no, he has to bust them on…you know, I’m not even sure what he’s looking for…and still I’ve watched both seasons on Netflix.

Ahh, you guys are being too hard on Sons of Anarchy. :) For my money, most of The Shield was far more ludicrous than anything that happens on Sons. (Of course, one of the main writers, Kurt Sutter, worked on 'em both…)

I mean, it’s a story about an outlaw motorcycle gang. Of course it’s going to be lurid and pulpy and violent. That’s what we want! And I actually think, despite all that, that he nails a lot of great family dynamics, power struggles, father/son issues, etc. And the entire storyline of what Katey Sagal when through in S2, how that was handled, was some great writing and amazing acting.

I think you’re missing the point that we actually like the show, for all the reasons you cited. That’s why I watch, anyway (though I haven’t finished the first season yet).

And The Shield, ludicrous and lovable as it is, is infinitely less ludicrous than Sons of Anarchy. I have to pretend I’m watching a modern adaptation of a fantasy novel when I see the shenanigans that go down on SoA.

Yup, I watched the hell out of SoA on Netflix, and enjoyed it, despite how ridiculous it is.

. . . and every one of them is an ex-felon judging by the mugshot wall, so they’re all eminently bustable. I was assuming that carrying the knife was their version of being the Duke boys as felons. Would open carry of a knife in CA be illegal? Also I assume none of them are on parole, since they couldn’t consort otherwise.

So I know this is really, really old news, but thanks to Netflix I now know that 30 Rock is actually pretty funny. In my defense, I haven’t had cable tv in almost a decade.

There are these things called television antennae…

Yeah, I also never bothered to set that up so it worked consistently. I think we still get an NBC somewhere from the “free” cable that comes with our internet, it’s just something I’ve lost the habit for. If you don’t care about sports, it ends up being pretty comfortable with the occasional pleasant surprise of being able to overdose on an extensive library of a show you missed.

I’m always surprised when I read that it doesn’t really do that well in ratings, I think it’s about the only must-see show on TV right now. I can wait for The Office and have damned near stopped watching old favorites like Family Guy, but 30 Rock is the perfect blend of crazy and clever.

huge batch of films just went up today.

I really liked Ti West’s Trigger Man. Not as good as House of the Devil, but still well worth the time.

Senso is a really lush tale of a woman whose love dooms an entire country. Very VERY operatic, more experienced than really watched.

The Terror is a lesser Corman work known best for being a reverse Poe, where the castle floods instead of burns to the ground, but it features Jack Nicholson punching a bird in the face.

Hercules in the Haunted World is a strange sword and sandal movie directed by Mario Bava, better known for his horror films. He carries his sensibilities to this peplum movie giving it a strange psychedelic twinge.

Scream Blacula Scream is actually superior to the original, i think, giving the titular character a worthy denouement

Did someone already mention “The Other Guys”? It’s a funny comedy, with some great cameos. I like Wahlberg being treated as short and comical in a movie again, thus restoring order to the universe.

Oh man, just wait. It’s the only show I know which actually gets suddenly better in Season 5. I got less and less interested in it in seasons 3 and 4, and then BAM, Season 5 was even better than the first two seasons. Amazing. That’s never happened before in sitcoms as far as I know.

Of course, I haven’t seen the second half of Season 5 yet, so maybe that changes in the second half. I stand by the first half of Season 5 though: best in the show’s history.

Not sure why this got panned (at least my impression was that is got panned) I thought it was funny through-out and Ferrell’s best movie work (he strides the Earth like a God in Easbound and Down) since Anchor Man.

Even more so after watching Hot Tub Time Machine, which wasn’t very funny IMO.

“Did you ever think about where your career would be if you hadn’t shot Jeter?”

I finished the TV series Day Break, which is sort of like Groundhog Day crossed with Twenty-Four. It’s only 13 episodes, but I liked it, though I have no idea how they could have possibly thought they could get more than one season out of it. (Though I thought the same thing about Prison Break, and I think it got 4 seasons)

We have talked about this one in several places at Qt3 and I have not seen a person who did NOT like it. It was so original and they did a magnificent job of not retreading each scene so that it got tedious when it reset. In some episodes, it moves forward assuming you remember that scene, that everything happened the same during that do-over and then show another scene that runs parallel. Other times, the entire thing is different based on his actions.

It was canceled prior to it finishing its run on Fox. I think they eventually showed the remaining episodes, but it was not advertised so I miseed them. I watched it on Hulu and loved it all over again. Not sure how they would have done a second season either. As I have said before, I thought it would have been impossible to go a second season of 24, too, but they seemed to work that out. Debatable as to how well some of those worked out of course.

And now I’ve moved on to Journeyman, another 13 episode series dealing with the malleable properties of Time. Also with the lovely Moon Bloodgood. Though Day Break was better, so far this one feels more like a rehash of Quantum Leap.

(Oh, i should mention that its not on instant watch, but on hulu)

Journeyman seemed like it would have had a lot more longevity than Daybreak. Plus it also had Moon Bloodgood.

She is going to be in that new post-alien apocalypse show with Noah Wylie, too.

I watched this when it was originally broadcast, and the first few episodes feel that way, then things start getting both weird and interesting.

Of course, it will break your heart because all the potential to become a great series is there, but they never got the chance.
