Thanks for sharing, that was a wonderful and moving read.
The amazing thing about emancipation, or one of them, is how the former enslaved Americans handled the aftermath of emancipation and the end of centuries of brutal oppression. Not with a bloodbath, but with dignity, grace, and power. A letter like that is far more devastating than any act of violent retribution might have been, as justified in many was as such retribution might be.
I’m pretty sure we read that letter or one damn similar back in my terrific US history class in high school.
