How is that a bait and switch? It actually sounds like they’re giving people two extra weeks to buy the game and get the DLC for free.
Unless they mean everyone only gets it for two weeks, then it gets yanked back behind the pay wall, in which case Bethesda/Splash Damage would be smoking crack.
Yeah I’d say it’s a little unclear from the wording. If it’s the former then cool, but if it’s the latter, fuck those guys (and this coming from someone who enjoys Brink).
Someone in the comments refers to a post on the steam forums that its free for the first two weeks and if you don’t download it then, you’ll have to pay for it after.
I totally read it as “it will be free for two weeks”. As in the free weekends that other multiplayer games had in Steam, and after deactivated. Steam has that feature, that can enable whatever content for everyone and after x hours deactivate it.
Maybe i am wrong and i shouted my whining too fast. I hope so!
edit: You were right people, if you obtain it in the first two weeks it will be yours forever. Ops!

Messed around for the first time since the latest patch was released. Initial impressions for me are the weapons are more varied (And dare I say balanced, heavy body type weapons seem worth the loss of mobility now) and performance seems a bit better. Kinda makes me wish Brink launched in its current condition with the extra maps from the upcoming DLC, might not have died as fast.
At least the bots are mostly enjoyable to play with. They still seem to get stupefied at rank 19 on hard difficulty and do teamwork buffs and things they shouldn’t be while I’m shooting at them, but on the whole they’re alright.
This is on sale at Amazon for $37 on console and $28 on PC, making it a really tempting buy for me. I want to get the PS3 version because the movement speed and weapon damage seem to be designed for the inaccuracy of a controller, and Digital Foundry says the PS3 version is much better, especially because it doesn’t have the 360’s texture streaming issues, but feedback from console players makes it sound like getting a game together with more than two or three other human players is impossible due to technical issues. Can any of you with PS3 or 360 Brink experience confirm that this is still an issue? Can those of you with the PC version say something about the quality of the PC experience? Does it feel more like a PC game after all the patching?

No desire to play this game ever again.
I’m not too sure what you mean Luke about speed and weapon damage designed for a controller, but I’ve got just under 60 hours logged on the PC and it’s a fine FPS. The “competitive” crowd is pretty angry at the latest patch since they made their beloved Carb-9 ineffective at longer ranges, but I think they did a pretty good job balancing the weapons.
The bots are getting tougher with each patch so finding full games isn’t completely required.
Any other questions?
After 40 hours i am beginning to grow tired of the game. More exactly, of the map balance between the two sides. At this point i want fair games. I will wait until the next patch or DLC to play more.
Had a great time last night playing four co-op matches with my two brothers. It was a full 8v8 with three humans and the rest hard bots.
The defense missions were pretty easy. The full bit team couldn’t get past the first objective. But we actually got stopped playing resistance on Security Tower. We got bottled up leaving the tower and barely got the dude out the gate before time ran out. The second time my brother went heavy and was able to clear out the bottle necks with the auto grenade launcher. It was glorious.
So, they have neither patched nor does it seems they will, the whole “lose one level when respeccing” which is one of the things I hate about Brink. Sigh.
Yeah, it’s one of the really weird design choices they made into the game.
New score record: 14600 xp in a match! Defending the prison as a medic. The funny thing, i did a good game, but not that good, as i played it i didn’t have the feeling of doing it great. Medics are OP in scores.
They (again) couldn’t keep his word, and the DLC will be out 3rd August. Close, but that’s not July!
They still doing the download it for free during the first two weeks, then you have to pay for it? I’m heading out on vacation, guess I’ll have to get the Mrs to nab it for me just to be sure.
Today’s the day for the free DLC. Not that many people care at this point.
Splash Damage really screwed this one up.

I guess I’m one of the few then. I’ve been looking forward to the free DLC, and holding off getting back into Brink for the last month or so because I’d rather have my 2nd “craze” of the game with the new DLC available.
But that might be something to do with the way I play online games. I don’t stick with a game for years and master it. I tend to play alot on release, then go on a 2nd kick a few months later, then maybe pick it up again years later if its a true classic like Battlefield. I’m a binge gamer you could say.

I just started getting back into Brink in the last week or so. I’m digging it quite a bit. I’ll definitely be grabbing the DLC today.

I ordered the 360 SKU when Amazon had it on sale for $20 last week. Got it yesterday and played through about 3 single player missions. I really dug it.
I don’t understand what all the complaining is about. It’s got that great Splash Damage objective-based team play, solid shooting, and the addition of being able to mantle and slide on a lot of surfaces. Seems extremely solid and fun so far.
