New Dell Laptop: MAKE THE POPUPS STOP

I have an OEM copy of XP SP1.1 from HP that doesn’t require activation if you install it on an HP, the more recent HP OEM CD’s DO require it however (or last time I tried using one).

It’s not that hard to punch Add-Remove programs a few times. I’m not sure why everyone says to reformat and reinstall.

You obviously haven’t dealt with a Dell that came with McAfee installed :)

Is there any way to de-rez McAfee?

I’m still dealing with family laptops bought two years ago that have that darn McAfee still running strong (warning you to update it’s subscription every day), despite me uninstalling and killing it every which way i can think of.

I just went though the uninstall-preloaded-software process with a gateway laptop. Mcafee cleanly uninstalled itself when I asked it to.

edit: i see everything thrice!

google up the “dell decrapifier” and it will set you free.

Yeah, but you had to do it 3 times!
