The next time someone has some information to post they should start a new thread, called ‘Actual Fallout 3 Info’. And no matter the provocation, strive to stay above the squabbles - which endless, ineffectual battles can rage on here in masochistic fervor.
Or, not … Seems like a good idea in spirit, anyhow.
Maybe if NMA, RPG Codex and Duck and Cover weren’t complete assholes for years on end people would act differently. Instead of being open to the community, willing to engade in debate, NMA and company were rude, insulting and generally hostile. NMA have become the lepers of gaming. Having a point of view even close to NMA will get you lumped in. NMA managed to become their own worst enemy and killed chances of people listening to any point of view they have. Even having a point of view close to NMA can get you branded as a leper.
No. It also has nothing to do with being less nerdy or obsessive, it’s just that there have always been a lot of people who like to play with idiots and fanboys. This forum has never been friendly to idiots. If you feel that you are neither idiot nor fanboy and that you want to contribute to actual discussion you should probably reconsider your posting style. I’m saying this in general, I haven’t followed this mess closely enough to say that it applies to you.
I agree with Erik above.
This forum is actually one of the most open to intelligent debate and reasoned arguements. It’s also one of the most intolerant in regards to hyperbole, idiocy, and generally juvenile antics. Which, whether deserved or not, the latter fits the stereotype of people from NMA, as well as the people who posted in this thread but are not with us anymore.
There’s nothing wrong with having a different opinion, just be prepared to objectively back it up, be able to meaningfully engage with other people who question your viewpoints, adn not resort to personal attacks and everything’s fine.
As for the quote from RPGWatch:
I love the Qt3 forums. I can’t decide if my favorite part is their ever more desperate attempts to put down NMA in order to convince themselves that they are somehow less nerdy and obsessive about games or their slagging off the Wii because it is dumbing down console games. And they say Americans don’t get irony.
Less nerdy? LESS NERDY? Really? This is like, one of the nerdiest forums on the internet and proud of it. The difference is the lack of a fanatical fetish for one specific game that borders on the ridiculous; to the point that it’s become the laughing stock of gaming sites in general. That’s what NMA is.
One good post out of six, not bad, it’s usually much worse. Still I think the other replies are enough to prove my points, thank you for your time.
He is so edgy and too cool for us.
I guess he is unhappy that we aren’t all discussing Draikin’s intelligent posts in this thread. Or that we aren’t accusing Dan & Tom of being on Bethesda payroll. Now, that’s intelligent discussion.
If only we tried to understand him :(
And coincidentally, you and your crew just happen to constantly be here, always at the ready to shit up this thread with your ridiculousness. Funny how that works out.
Nah, that’s not really true at all in two regards. One, people do discuss the game when there’s new information until someone like Draikin comes in and posts,
"That idiot Todd Howard$ shoed off his demoes and it was craps and everythin i didnt want in my fallout. Bethe$da " or whatever dumb shit he has to say.
Or thamer, who started this derail with,
“You all are shit journalists on Bethesda’s payroll. MGS4 <3 <3 <3”
And two, an admin at Penny Arcade had to ban NMA from discussion because the thread would derail too much about how awful you guys are, with people usually posting quotes from your forum and laughing.
Would it not - and I ask from the admittedly naive perspective of someone who had no idea that a secret war was being waged deep beneath the surface of the Internet and wandered unwittingly into the crossfire - be worthwhile to set the relatively few transgressors to Ignore?
Not really, because then we won’t get to witness the awesome moment when Fallout 3 does gangbuster business and they start their internet flame-out death spiral.
I didn’t even know this forum had an ignore feature. Neato.
Though the problem with ignore I’ve noticed on a couple forums is, you can still see those posts when they’re quoted. And usually you ignore an annoying shithead that people argue with a lot and thus quote a lot.
Ignore doesn’t work, because there’s always people who shouldn’t be ignored who respond to people you have on ignore.
for something completely different:

Nothing really new here, though I would like to reiterate my enthusiasm for planting live explosives on enemies while sneaking around.
It might be a start … If half of the people who were worthwhile reading did, then the endless flame might slowly suffocate as the fuel gradually diminished.
That’s just because I’d like to actually discuss Fallout here, though. A bit ideal, I realize.
Will this game appease Oblivion fans? “If they’re mainly into swords and elves, I don’t think they’ll like it.”
BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS OBLIVION WITH GUNS
He should have mentioned the flaming sword they have in the game. That should keep the TES fans happy!
However, as big as the game is, you won’t using any sort of transports to get around.
That’s pretty interesting - wonder how they’ll handle that? A quick travel hybrid?
How many in-game radio stations do they have? “I don’t know!” There are two main ones, the station with Malcolm McDowell as the President saying “all is well” and so on, and the other station that plays music from the 40s, and has a dj that you can actually meet and do quests for.
I like it.
You should have taken the left turn at Albuquerque if you wanted to get to NeoGAF.
That E3 Live Demo video with Todd Howard and the 1up editors was really cool: http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/20175
The bits about the scale of the city, and the character creation (30 minutes of play-time, recurring characters later in the game) were pretty interesting. They also showed the lock-picking mini-game, which looks pretty realistic (although in gameplay terms I’m not really stoked about it, not a fan of minigames really).
