That’s the PCZone one that Sarkus was talking about earlier, now in full. Very good one, worth a read.

Some great stuff in there. The bits about pickpocketing someone to slip a grenade into their pocket is great stuff. I don’t think I ever tried doing that in the original Fallout games but I seem to remember it was possible.
LOL he name checks them – I’m confused though, so some people got to see the dialog stuff but they are not releasing any videos of it?
You essentially get a house, complete with Wadsworth the robot butler who can cut your hair and a place to store your foraged Vault Boy miniatures. You can then customise said shack in a variety of different styles through the local store - with themes like Raider, Science, Pre-war and Love Machine to choose from.
To me, this seems incongruous to the post-apocalyptic setting - it may have worked in the prosperous boroughs of Cyrodiil, but you honestly feel that in Fallout you shouldn’t be able to order in much more than a rusty bucket and a blanket.
I think it’s pretty cool, I mean you just did something pretty significant for the town and they’re giving you something that most others don’t get to enjoy.
I suppose the expectation is that the first town is a struggling, hard-scrabble outpost that would barely be capable of supporting a community television set - so the robobutler might come off as an inordinate luxury. I guess that ultimately depends on the relative prosperity of the town.
If they’re struggling for supplies, they probably might’ve bartered off that thing long ago.
It could work. Glad to hear they offer some customization, too.

I think you could plant timed explosives on people, I don’t think the grenades had any effect.
The shack does seem silly/out of place.
Wolfgang turned towards me and frantically began to slap at his legs to find the offending article, but unfortunately had become a shower of body parts before it was discovered.
Sweet.
I think they might be going for that creep Logan’s run Gamma World vibe where most of the robots survived the war and just continued on doing their function as if nothing happened. However their program has become corrupt and if anyone tries to screw with it they could be dangerous. It might of been best to let it be.
You could. In F2, that was one of the best ways to take out an early boss whose name escapes me.
I know there’s a bot factory you can visit, and you can buy a robot from the guy who runs it for a companion.
Though I have no idea if it’s a generic replaceable guard type deal, or if it actually has a personality.
I believe you’re thinking of the dude in Chinatown. Super-Stimpacks also work quite well.

From what I remember, the only robot thus far in the Fallout canon with a “personality” would be Skynet.
Yeah, the reviewer was a science guy I think, maybe if he hadn’t known science as well it would have gone berserk on him? Who knows.

There was also the one in The Glow that demanded a game of chess.

That full PCZone piece Briosfreak linked to makes me feel pretty good. Short 30 minute based previews aside, both of the long pieces really make the RPG elements of the game stand out.
One thing we haven’t seen much of, however, is how sex is handled. I don’t expect nudity, but I wonder if Bethesda will shy away from hookers or implied sex in the course of quest resolution, similar to the New Reno stuff in Fallout 2. While Fallout 1 was rather limited in what if offered in that regard, Fallout 2 took it up several notches. Bethesda’s comments that they view Fallout 1 as the true template makes me think we’re going to get the toned down version.
In pc gamer this month, one of the perks is “lady killer.” So there may be some fade to black moments.
There’s, again, conflicting information on that. In one preview (or maybe on of those translated bits) it states the hooker in Megaton will deny you her services because you seem too young. In another magazine or website preview it says you can sleep with her, and you’ll even get a health bonus.

One of the previews mentioned that the lady-of-the-night in Megaton refused you because you were under 21.

Nice find. This is a much meatier presentation of the game and plenty of good questions from the interviewers. I do like the camera man checking out the Asian woman behind Todd at the beginning of the video. That is hilarious.
Ah, a nice WOPR reference?
Well, unless they mean it literally.

One thing I’m confused about is the food and drink aspect. I thought I read somewhere that it would be necessary to eat and drink to survive. Then in one of the E3 previews I thought it was mentioned that you didn’t have to eat but it would give you health with the added risk of radiation poisoning.
Not sure whether it’s absolutely necessary or not but Todd mentions that the game is a balance of immediate health versus total radiation and that there are a lot of consumables in the game. More or less sounds like they’re extending the STALKER system.
Actually, it’s both - you’re able to seduce female characters (or male, if your character is female, in which case it’s called Black Widow) into doing things for you via dialogue options, but you also get a combat bonus vs the opposite sex.
I’m not 100% positive on this, but I’m pretty sure it’s not required. However, it would probably be near-impossible to make it through without eating/drinking, since it heals you.
