I think that’s a grenade launcher. The drum might be part of the barrel itself, because the drum might be part of the triggering system itself.

I’m pretty sure that’s the combat shotgun. If you look closely you can see it ejecting a shell at the base of the barrel.

Edit: Compare to this image.

It could also be reasoned that in a world like Fallout’s you don’t always get to have the optimal firearm design and generally just work with what you got. It has a cobbled-together feel that doesn’t seem out of place, regardless of whether or not it’s intelligent gunsmithing.

I don’t know if non-optimal is the word so much as completely non-functional. But you’re right it does look like it fits into the setting, I just wanted to point out that there’s a valid reason for thinking the gun is “off” that doesn’t involve turning into an NMA zombie. What’s one unrealistic gun design in the Fallout universe? Moving on with our lives…

Funny, I played Guild Wars with a beat-the-game-watch-the-cutscene mentality, and it worked out pretty well.

In a world where a Red Ryder BB Gun is the best weapon you can wield, non-functional seems to be a matter of opinion.

Heh, that gun is a mutated version of a PPsh SMG.

Those crazy soviets. It looks like the drum doesn’t even feed into the barrel. Color me stupid.

Careful, UMac…

I disagree.

Best of Show:
1998: Homeworld - that trailer with “Samuel Barber - Adagio for Strings” was awesome
1999: Freelancer - a good game

2000: Black&White - a nice screensaver
2001: Gamecube - it’s like a Dreamcast without the good games
2002: DoomIII - bad game, bad engine
2003: Half-Life 2 - worse than Half-Life 1
2004: PSP - Gran Turismo trailer made with the PS2 version wowed those professional journalists.
2005: Spore - cant judge it yet but it looks like an evolved tamagotchi.
2006: Wii - the death of gaming
2007: Rock Band - non game
2008: Fallout 3

Uhh, what?

You might as well cancel your account here now. I’m not saying all those games ended up living up to the hype, but the majority were big successes, crtically and popularly acclaimed. You just proved that whatever you want in a game hasn’t been made since 1998. Accept that and move on.

Hell, I’m not even sure the majority of people at NMA would agree with what you just wrote.

Bah, it makes perfect sense. Watch, as I translate.

It’s cool, in the original they’re talking about curry.

No one cares. Die alone in a hole.

Great game, fuck off. And you mean Agnus Dei you IDIOT.

Just like what’s between your legs is like a penis, only smaller.

Engine was fine, you’re huffing windshield wiper fluid.

Great game, fuck off.

Game looks to be great, fuck off.

So no games have come out in the last 2 years? Fuck off.

Great game, fuck off.

Fuck off.

Nice use of a Red Dwarf shot.

I’m not Sherlock Holmes or anything but it looks like Draikin has Halo and Hitman: Blood Money in his torrent list. Ahem… can’t really fault him for the Blonde Redhead though.

Damning evidence, though circumstantial.

Given the fact that he, unlike others of his caliber, has yet to confess…

Well, we might just need the judge to weigh in on this one.

So your argument is that the Best of Show in past years has been awarded to four great games, one mediocre game, one game that demoed well but didn’t hold up in the long run, and two games we haven’t gotten to play yet. And three platforms, one of which was the first true commercial failure for a proven company, one of which was awarded the prize based on hands-on play and not a vaporware trailer, and one that has proven to be the most successful thing ever.

Yeah, you sure deconstructed the gaming press on that one, dude.

Edit: I was going to let it slide, but I changed my mind. If you really think you can boil Spore down to “an evolved tamagotchi,” you are either willfully ignorant or short-sighted to the point that your opinion on Fallout 3 isn’t much more than a punchline.

To be honest:
I have doubts about the amount of “fun” I will have with Spore.
I was bored with the editor after 5 min and I’m not really into sandbox games unless they have a strong main story to follow (aka GTA).
I will wait for reviews before considering whether to buy Spore or not.
Will depend on if there is a real single player story arc in there or not.

Different strokes and all.
