OT:

You know, i have a 5.1 sorround system in the living room, and a 5.1 Medusa headphones for the pc (the ones usually people say they are a gimmick and much worse than a true sorround system) and i prefer the headphones for gaming. The 3d positioning system is more accurate with the headphones playing a fps, i can say if the enemy steps i am hearing comes from my 9 o’clock (W) or my 10 o’clock (W-NW). I don’t have that kind of precision with the sorround system, as i can’t put the speakers in the right position and at the same distance, by room issues (position of couch, tv, free space, layout of room, etc). I don’t have that issue with the headphones in my pc.

I prefer sitting at my desk and having the headphones on too. Just a personal preference but I find myself more drawn into the game world.

I also have the feeling that I can detect positions of enemies easier (footsteps / machine gun fire) that way.

Yup. Most of the time the surround system is fine, but the room acoustics and decoder/receiver setup need serious love.
