New Fallout 3 Info

I suspect action points allow various special attacks that can result in critical hits. You can only do so many in a given time due to the AP restriction. And you can pause the game to target a specific area or fire off a special attack. Regular real time attacks just decrease hit points based upon the damage the weapon/skill does. That’s my guess.

No one’s forcing you to do it. Play it the way FPS you always do, without any of the special targeted attacks.

There aren’t that many games that do that (at least, not major ones), but I suspect the reasoning behind this it to give the haters a chance to mull it over and start changing their minds.

Either way, this sounds fantastic. Most of my reservations are gone, so far.

  • No level scaling like oblivion, you walk into a high level area, you die horribly.

Thank the good lord.

Well, it got me wet.

Yeah, for a dick you’ll have to wait 18 months to fuck.

I blame Rimbo for your metaphors.

All media that went to see FO3 this week had to sign an NDA (I guess to preserve GI’s exclusive), but I believe I can safely say that Todd Howard had a quick/funny answer to someone asking if it’ll be Vista only.

EDIT TO ADD: It’s a lot like when Chick would say “Fuck Star Wars.”

Oh, you better kid, kid!

“Will it be Vista-exclusive?”
“Fallout Star Wars!”
“…”

Then Todd Howard turns out to be a Skrull.

Well this is good news unless they developed a 1st person ascii rendering engine. I’m excited, though I’m only sexually aroused by hentai dating sims.

Oh yeah, I’m totally buying it now. I hope they don’t bring back the level scaling crap. Ever.

If I’m reading it right, and you’re playing in 3rd person, it sounds to me like combat will work very much like it is supposed to in Mass Effect.

Bethsoft will be well served by a year of building brand awareness. Fallout isn’t GTA, or even the Elder Scrolls. When half the respondents to a Gamespot poll are asking HAY WATS FALLOUT, you have some work to do.

Yes, 15-18 months is excessive.

Sweet. It sounds like Bethesda have done their homework.

You mention these are the high points. What are the low points?

I hope they keep the ending where you see the effect your actions have had in all the cities and towns you’ve come across.

The way I read it, Action Points basically seem to be what the Bullet Time bar is in Max Payne.

All I want to know is if I max out luck and tag gambeling can I go into a casino, put a weight on the bet $$$ button, and return later for my millions?

Even if I can’t still picking this up and it actually sounds like it will be able to live up to the name Fallout.

Space Hulk used an hour glass-type system where you could pause the game and select actions, but you would eventually run out of pause time. Putting things back into real-time caused the hour glass to tick back up (represented as a horizontal meter). The uptick went slow, and pausing used up the meter somewhat quickly.

Didn’t want to lift it for here but it sounds interesting and that they seem to get the whole Fallout thing.
