Not sure if you know this info but… is there any compelling reason to buy the PC edition over the 360 version or vice versa? I know oblivion was easily modded on the PC, but in this thread someone posted that there won’t be any tools available for modders at release. Just wondering which version of the lunchbox edition I should buy :)

That cookie stalks my dreams, his mien a mask of savage ire.
I don’t think that’s been brought up since E3 … But it’s great news in any case. That’s exactly how I’d like to see it perform.
I guess they’d had the VATSification turned up to 1000%, or something, just to show it off. Silly!
Considering it’s an fps, isn’t that a bit like asking if there’s a compelling reason for playing it with your hands instead of your knees?
That is the angriest cookie ever!
And 360 FPS works just fine.

Yeah Oblivion on the 360 works just fine. Also those videos make me hot. I love the last one with the nuke detonation.

console fps just takes a whole lot of getting used to if you have the mouse and keyboard controls for them ingrained deep into your muscle memory and brain stem. guess that’s what makes the cookie angry.
To me, the cookie looks determined.
And I think watching those movies just pushed me into buying the CD so I can get the bobblehead. Does that make sense? Probably not, but still and yet, that’s a cool CE.
P.S., This is obviously a PC purchase, not some silly console game.
Well, if Nyx doesn’t mind having the gunplay crippled, I’m sure he’ll agree with you two. Personally I think console controls have about as positive an impact on gameplay as coma has on one’s ability to steer a lorry. But of course, I’ve only tried GoW and Halo 3 this generation (Oblivion too, but that’s even worse).

Wasn’t really concerned about the FPS-ness of the game. With VATS that’s largely moot since I can pause and aim. What I am wondering about are things like GUI on 360 vs PC. For instance, Mass effect has a lot of subtle and not-so-subtle changes between the PC and 360 version. Also wondering if there is platform specific content and stuff like that.

the mass effect pc release was quite a bit later than the 360 release, allowing for refinements in ui. fallout3 will be a simultaneous release. still, maybe the mouse and high resolution of a pc will make the ui more usable. however, i’ll still be getting it on 360 for being able to enjoy it on the couch with some comrades and a few beers on the big hdtv.

It was long ago confirmed that those demos were shot with Bloody Mess enabled.
Ummm. I think you may be slightly confused about what kind of game Fallout is.
Oh, good.
Just what this thread needed.
A PC vs Console debate.
Well, I’ll be getting the 360 version because of the DLC (although I believe that’s coming to PC as well) and the fact that it seems to be the version they’re most interested in showing off. I haven’t seen the PC version in person, but I don’t really know what would look better on a hefty rig outside of a higher resolution. The draw distance even on the 360 version is pretty insane, with very little pop-up. The old Oblivion high/low detail horizon line is gone, and everything really does look amazing.
I can’t imagine the modding tools won’t eventually be released, though, so if that’s really what does it for you, I see no reason not to get the PC version.
I wouldn’t be so sure. From what I’ve seen and played, Fallout 3 makes a fine spectator’s sport.
I played this for about ten minutes yesterday at PAX. Basically, what you saw in the “Escape” trailer was what I got to play. After leaving the vault, I got to fool around with selecting a Perk, allocating some skill points, and then set off down the road. After about three minutes, I wound up wandering into a Raider encampment. The gunfight was epic. I targeted a guy just as he threw a grenade at me. I shot him in the arm just as his grenade blew up next to me. I was treated to a slow-motion aerial death.
I am stunned at how awesome the gameplay felt. The weapons and environments just seemed very solid and real. Nothing floaty or “faked” like Oblivion. The FPS action was very much like BioShock, while the VATS pausing and targeting was a real treat. It just felt very natural.
All the haters can shut up. This game is going to be GoTY for sure.

Oh man, I hope you’re joking. The down-to-the-bones running and gunning in BioShock was pretty bad in my opinion.
Well, I guess you can judge for yourself, but if you didn’t actually like BioShock’s combat, then there’s not much I can tell you beyond it felt very solid in Fallout 3.

How could there not be such a debate in this thread, for fuck’s sake?
Chalk me up as another one who saw this at PAX (didn’t play it though – I only was able to attend the show for about 90 minutes, which was barely enough time to merely eyeball all the titles I wanted to check out in the exhibit hall).
It was definitely game of the show. They must have been running it on PCs at 1920x1200, and the draw distance was indeed fucking awesome. Seeing people pop in and out of VATS to target arms on power-armored baddies, pulling up the PipBoy and skulking around the wasteland… FUCK YEAH, I want to play this game NOW.
When is it being released again? Is there even a moderately firm release date? PC version please – I didn’t get this 26" Hannspree 1920x1200 monitor, fueled by an 8800GT (and I might even stick in the second one and give SLI another try), for nothing.
You mean like Vault 13?
You mean like the easily-operated vault doors in every functioning vault?
You mean like wanamingoes?
You mean like ray guns and reverse-pickpocketed sticks of dynamite?
You mean like carrying multiple weapons and switching between them?
Imagine screenshots demonstrating all of these, because I don’t give enough of a fuck.
