While you can wear any clothes you find in the game, they will not serve as disguises (i.e. no one will confuse you for a doctor while dressed in a lab coat). Pagliarulo explained there would be too much extra dialogue to record.
Curse you, recorded dialog. Curse you to hell.
See? Text is better!
I hope at least you get the occasional, ‘hey, uh … nice bunny suit’.
Having pity on Australian gamers, Bethesda now censors drug names in all other versions as well.
While it has been assumed that these changes would only be in place in the Australian release of the game, Edge has been told by Bethesda vice president of PR and marketing Peter Hines that there will be no differences between the version that releases in Australia and the versions that will release in other territories, including Europe and the US. […]
He continued, “An issue was raised concerning references to real world, proscribed drugs in the game, and we subsequently removed those references and replaced them with fictional names. To avoid confusion among people in different territories, we decided to make those substitutions in all versions of the game, in all territories.”
Huh? I thought Fallout has always made up its drug names except alcohol.
Man, how am supposed to know I’m smoking meth when they call it krank? That’s not right.

I’d prefer it that way anyway, really. It’s not the same without Psycho and Mentats.
Those were already in the game as well, I think what they took out was “morphine” really, probably not street drugs (those would have already been called “mentats” for example).

Morphine, meh. I could see that going either way, being legit medicine but easily abused. I don’t think it breaks the world in a way that crack or crystal meth would. Fallout’s crazy drugs are part of the fun, and everyone knows no current drug can compare to flying with Jagged Jimmy J.

Well thank God those Aussies are protecting me from those evil drug… names.

IIRC, didn’t the changes they made to the game also relate to some of the art/animation used? Syringes and pills? Or is that stuff ok since they’re using fake drug names now?
According to an interview with Pete, the only thing they changed was “morphine” to “med-x” and they did it in all localizations for consistency. The only other difference between the versions is the violence is toned down for das German version.

So they let Uwe Boll make movies, but they don’t let video games have blood?
Freakin’ Germans make no sense.
Wasn’t there mention of changing the reward system for using drugs so that it wasn’t seen as a positive (this in the original Australian editing)? I didn’t think it was only name changes, but it now seems to be described that way. Are they just glossing over the other changes or were there really no other changes made?

There were always serious trade-offs for drug use in the Fallout games.
The blurb on a Gamespot article said: “Fallout 3’s resubmitted version was passed by the board because “the reward and incentive” for in-game drug use had been significantly toned down.”

German versions are easy on the violence with extra nipples.
I’ve been thinking for like two whole minutes how I could sneak a link to Black Blade into this post. But I can’t. So unless you’ve had your daily dose of cowbell already, go flipping watch it.
Well, that or avoid the incredibly stupid looking “Bloody Mess” perk…
