I’m curious how many people who whine about the Bloody Mess perk in Fallout 3 loved it in 1 and 2. Yeah, it’s stupid-looking. That’s why it’s awesome.

I never took it in FO1/2 since I always enjoyed when the gruesome criticals would come up occasionally, not EVERY TIME and thus ruin the fun of them. To this day, I just realized, I’ve never selected it even to “try it out”. Based on what I’ve seen in FO3, though, I wouldn’t have enjoyed it.

And no matter what, seeing a guy get shot with the VATS system with a rifle to the head and watching ALL HIS LIMBS FLY OFF was just inane, and I actually think FO3 looks like a day one purchase for me.

I used it a lot in the first two games, but it got rather old after you see the same animation a thousand times. And I’m in agreement with how lame it looks in FO3. I don’t need to see death in slow-mo every time either, so I hope that VATS doesn’t fire that animation off every damn time.

VATS did not slo-mo every time when I played it. It only seemed to do it when a particularly gruesome/awesome kill happened, which shouldn’t be all that frequent if you don’t take Bloody Mess.

Probably another reason not to take it. VATS seems like it could get pretty old fast, and that would be a shame. I hope I’m wrong about that. Or, it would be nice if there was an option you could set to turn off the slow-motion entirely, for the end-game when you’ve been playing for 30 or 40 hours and have seen it a thousand times.

There may well be. I didn’t dig into the options at all except to invert the Y axis.

On the contrary. It was awesome in Fallout 1 & 2 for about an hour. After that you realized you were saddled with seeing the same few death animation over and over ad nauseam. Not making that mistake again.

Some of the Bloody Mess animations were like that, but even all these years later I’m not sick of the critical kill you get from submachine guns.

I liked the goofy ones in 1 & 2, I didn’t like what I saw from E3. It was mostly an issue with the limbs rocketing off. I don’t mind over-the-top animations, but I’ve never been very fond of 3d gibbing - it just looks cheap.

So, leaving 1 & 2 behind, because it is really unhelpful to compare the visuals of an old isometric game to a new 3d wow-n-stuff game, if I do ever want to Bloody Mess someone I’d like to see them either go through a ridiculous spazz-out animation, or be very location specific. If it doesn’t work out that way, I just won’t use it.

Have to see with the final game, anyhow.

I’m not a fan of the new bloody mess anims either. There seems to be something missing, character maybe? I think I know the SMG one you’re talking about Matt, was it the one that the character kind of staggers as he’s perforated? I loved that one too but I haven’t seen anything similar in the new videos, none of them really stand out to me.

Some NMA’ers played Fallout 3 at Pax: http://www.nma-fallout.com/article.php?id=44869

Is it the Fallout we know? Nope. Is it Oblivion w/guns? No, I don’t think so. They changed things in this game in a way that it doesn’t totally feel like a post-apoc Oblivion mod. If you don’t mind and embrace changes, check it out. My personal feeling that I got from what I played is that it is going to be a fun game in its own right.

This game isn’t Fallout (and that goes without saying). However, it’s NOT Oblivion with guns. Fallout 3 is best described as “An Action RPG Set in a Re-imagined Fallout Universe.” The game is entertaining and I say that proudly. Don’t let the ignorance of executives and press officials who’ve probably never touched Fallout negatively influence your enjoyment of an honestly decent game

On the NMA -4 to 2 scale, that’s an A+++.

I’m sure Pete’s getting that quote ready for the back of the box.

So the rumor is true, there will be a black hole.

“An honestly decent game” - No Mutants Allowed

Ragged holes. Melting. Twitching.

Chalk me up as one of those not really minding even if it turned out to be just “Oblivion with guns”. So what if it isn’t a true Fallout game? Fuck the title, fuck the IP - as long as it’s fun to play, it’s all good.

F’in A. Got it on pre-order. Can’t wait. Now STFU about the game and post moar lolcats n stuff.

I sitll want to know whether to get this for the PS3 or the 360, is there any info on that yet?

This isn’t really occuring, you see. Right now we’re all experiencing a shared hallucination created by the resonating alpha waves that were being emitted from our brains when we died.

Yes, that’s right, we’re all actually dead right now. You see, the test fire of the LHC yesterday morning went catastrophically wrong; we’re dead and we just don’t know it yet.

PC Version.

Depends on what you’re into. PS3 version will not have trophies or DLC. 360 version will. Everything else is the same according to the pre-release chatter.
