There’s some goofiness, like the Rock-it launcher, but it definitely plays the subject matter straighter (including the references to other sci-fi/apocalyptic movies, etc.)

Awww yeah, looking forward to rocking the pancor jackhammer again! What a great weapon.
I propose a two-week forward-skip in time. Who’s with me?!
Not me. it really sucks the week after Fallout 3 comes out I’m going to have to put in almost 11 days straight of 14 hour days at work.
I’m soooooooo calling in sick on the 28th. Luckily I hardly ever take sick days so nobody questions when I get, oh, let’s say food poisoning.

I’m going to name my first character “Nivea Commando”.
Perks:
Cannibal
Kid At Heart
Nerd Rage!
I reviewed the perks and they are mostly awesome. Almost all of them sound very useful. It’s going to be pretty tough to choose, though I’m sure someone will come up with an optimal mix.

That’s good news. What are your other specs? How’s the loading time?
2.67 Core 2 duo 6700, XP32 bit, max ram.
Loading times are much faster than in Oblivion once you’re in the game (so leaving buildings, etc.). Initial boot time may be lengthier though.
So much for the whole “we’re delaying the PC release so that people buy the console version instead of pirating the PC one” argument that companies like to use, eh?

Come now Desslock, a “Read it in my upcoming PC Gamer review.” would have sufficed.
And I’ll add a Lol!!!ONE111 just in case my tongue in cheek intention does not translate to text very well.
I know you can’t comment on it much as you are writing a review, but could you summarize your initial thoughts on the game so far in a sentence?
Or if a full sentence is more than you’re allowed to give us, feel free just to summarize your thoughts by using a number between 1 and 100.

I see the Sig 550 in screenshots, but no mention of it in any websites or articles describing weapons. Certainly it’s in, right?
Edit: God I’m a dork. If you do a Google search for “Fallout 3 Sig 550”, the fourth hit is me talking about this same thing.

As far as I can tell it’s Oblivion set in the Fallout universe which is likely going to be fun within itself. However, if you are expecting the charm and style of the original Fallouts, you’re just going to set yourself up for disappointment.
Don’t let this be Spore all over again people. Enjoy it for what it is, don’t blow it up to be omgbbq.

Giving it a letter grade or numerical score would probably violate Desslock’s responsibility to the magazine.
So, I instead propose we use a vaguely defined “favorite fruit” scale. Desslock can tell us how he thinks on a scale of fruit, using a fruit he dislikes if he doesn’t like the game or one he does if likes the game.
Desslock might say: “It’s definately an apple.”
That way you get a score and Desslock doesn’t really reveal anything since we don’t no the context of the fruit score! Win win!

Without all the stuff that turned me off Oblivion… level scaling, crap character system, shallow dialog options, too many quests that forced you to finish them the way the game wanted you to and only a single ending for the MQ. Fallout 3 looks like it kills all that stuff, I’m pretty excited to get in there and see what they’ve done to the setting. I’m very curious about the area called Commonwealth (North of DC/game area) that is supposed to house some pretty advanced tech. I wonder if we’ll see that in the DLC.
Other than in settled areas, which are understandably sparse, it doesn’t feel much like Oblivion, in my opinion. And I loved Oblivion.
I actually think anyone who thinks Fallout 3 is “just like Oblivion”, either (a) hasn’t played the game and/or (b) is a fool.
They feel more different than I expected - and I loved Oblivion, so I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to say they’re very similar if I felt that.
