I realize this is way after the fact, but the GameTrailers TV from this past weekend is all about Fallout 3. It’s a nice look at some new environments and gives some good insight into the sort of missions one will undertake. I think it’s watchable over at GameTrailers.com as well.
A press review copy (Xbox 360) found its way to some torrents a week ago.
I don’t even have a Xbox 360 so don’t even start calling me a pirate.
Thank you.

This “trench warfare trailer” looks spectacularly unimpressive. As said in the post on RPS, it looks as if the bad guys just drop over dead from a sudden lack of hit points vs actually being shot to death. There’s a subtle but important difference.
Yowch, that is pretty bad.
And not just that they don’t die aesthetically, but they don’t appear to react at all to what should be an awesome weapon …
I’m already committed to buying it, mentally, but that’s a real shame.

Eh, it’s no worse than a lot of other games I’ve seen. And you get to fire a Vulcan cannon from the hip. How awesome is that?
Just look away while they are dying; you’ll be fine.
Is this going to make release this month?
Yeah, and if you watch the whole thing, there are more dramatic deaths in there, too (including what looks like a minigun crit, which sends the target flying). That standard deaths are a bit undramatic, but I don’t think it looked bad.

It does look a bit underwhelming, but I’m more puzzled by the fact that you can do called shots with a minigun and a rocket launcher. Why would you need to do that?

I was actually more disappointed by how the rocket didn’t gib the target. Where’s all the body parts?

Oct 28, what planet have you been living on? :)
No, the question is: why wouldn’t you need to do that?
RL + called shot to the eyes = win
OTT: Anyone else think that Bethsoft should scrap the Fallout universe and replace it with Neil Marshall’s Doomsday universe?
Not me. The whole retro-futurism thing is what got me hooked on Fallout in the first place. Well, that and shooting people in the groin.

Yes, and the juxtapositioning of quirky humor with bleak distopia.
Doomsday was a little more contained than Fallout. I like how expansive the Fallout universe has become.
If you check out some of the design docs and world info for the Van Buren project, you get a much bigger sense of what the US has become since the bombs fell. Sweet stuff involving the Hoover Dam, the Denver Salvagers Camp, robot armies on the plains of Kansas, and a loose network of protection from the Brotherhood of Steel. There’s also rogue BoS elements in there. Awesome, awesome stuff.
Check out this (crummily organized but incredibly comprehensive) pen and paper setting document for all of the new stuff.

Huh, weird. Amazon says the publisher is moving up Fallout 3’s release to Oct 24th. Anyone hear anything about this?
Where are you seeing that? I’m still seeing a release date of the 28th on the main F3 page…

I’m not seeing that either Killzig.
