What prompted the blowup in the first place? I went back and re-read up the thread, but I’m not seeing it.

He seems to think the FarCry2 thread that was linked is “spoilery,” even though all it talks about is a small part of the tutorial where it’s easy to lose track of your goal (unless you check your objectives.)

I mentioned that old-school PC games could sometimes be difficult to get into, and that the new trend towards more user-friendly UI and gameplay wasn’t all bad. He then proceeded to go insane, calling console gamers moronic demons or something.

Well I’m staying in here. Me and Foxstab can keep the REAL Fallout thread going while you heretics go off with your shitty new Fallout thread. Or, another way to look at it, is, the trend to make dumber games for dumb gamers doesn’t exactly strike me as “progress”.
Argue all you want, someone that can’t follow simple directions like, say for example, how to find the spymaster in Balmora in Morrowind, is just plain dumb.

But, the new breed of gamers need to have their hands held, giant flashing arrows pointing to their destinations, and given little gold stars for doing the simplest of tasks. “You escaped from the starter dungeon!”.
I mean really, is this your idea of “progress”?

Then, someone points out the fact that Fallout is “too hard” to get into.
Well, this just strikes me as about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

(I ramble a bit with a backstory, skip down to the bold for the poll question)
So, I’m the local Gamestop for the first time in about 2 months.
We get to talking about the usual stuff which means World of Warcraft.
“What level are you?”
“Still 56, why?”
“56???”
“Yeah, I’ve been playing Tabula Rasa”
I mention that my “time played” in TR sometimes equals “time since last played” which is a bit amusing.
One of the other guys mentions his time played for all his characters on WoW, which equaled up to some nearly 4 months of gaming time. (117 days? I think is what he said)
I mention that my first character I played, my alliance warrior on a different server has something like 40-some days played at 60.
This other guy says something smarmy like “dude, if you got 40 days at 60, you’re doing something totally wrong”.
I explained that this included 300 blacksmithing/weaponsmith/master swordsmith skill.
He said, “that doesn’t take that long”.
I asked him if he had a blacksmith, and he said “no, but I have a jewelcrafter, leatherworker, ect., it’s all the same”.
I asked him again “Do you have a blacksmith too?”
He said “no”.
I said, “shut up then”.
He said, “dude!, don’t tell me to shut up”.
I said, “how about, SHUT THE FUCK UP?”
The manager was standing there and got all “hey hey, there’s no call for that”.
I said, “he doesn’t know what he’s talking about and is trying to tell me that, even though I played the character I don’t know what I’m talking about?, Fuck that.”
It got really quiet after that, and I explained that WoW now, is radically different than it was in the very beginning when I started playing.
They were all “yeah, whatever”.
So I left.
