Yes. There is no difference between shooting in realtime and in VATS as far as damage and effect on the body goes. You can cripple a leg or an arm in either.

Hold down the reload button to holster your weapon. I’m not sure that’s listed anywhere, but it might be in the brief tutorial window.

Sweet, thanks! It’s listed in the manual as “Ready/Reload” for the PC. There does seem to be an incessant amount of clicking between menus. One gripe I have is the interface for bartering is a bit too snazzy. I like picking up my items from the interface and putting them on the interface’s wooden table of the previous games.
