You don’t have to kill the guards. You can walk up the stairs to the right of that hallway and go into the overseers office.

Um… you mean the guards with guns that you can just walk right past? I’ve played the intro 4 times now and never once needed to kill those guards.
Did Kathode strangle your puppy or something?
If he wants to kill the guards, that’s totally none of your business, so stop infringing on his right to complain about things that were the direct results of his own choices, damnit!
When the game starts you’re a basic civilian with a BB-gun and a hefty blunt object at your disposal, and a willingness to use them. Your advantage should end at the point that guns enter the picture because guns are made to kill people. The guards aren’t equipped with BB-pistols, they’re using actual firearms. Or atleast, they appear to be.
Am I the only one that got a pistol from the overseer’s daughter before this sequence?
Nope, I did, too. And a couple of the guards in the vault were armed with 10mms as well.
I’ve been using the nuka cola machine at East Chevy Chase (just inside the entrance) as my waypoint for storing things. It gives me the flexibility to save up all of those armors and things that I know I will need for repairs later (eg extra combat armors), or just stuff for when my repair skill increases to the point where I can max it out. It’s a convenient fast travel point, and I go back to it usually whenever I clear out a new map checkpoint so I can get back to where I was (note: some places will, of course, have new bad guys waiting for you at times when you return. ECC has never had any since I cleared it out.

Yeah. Those guards were pretty easy to kill with the 10mm, even on hard.
How many days have you let pass so far? I want to store things out in the world (I like the idea of having stashes!), but don’t want them to reset. I guess there’s no idea of what the respawn timer is, is there?
Not until we get the editor thingy.

Something that I just remembered to ask about. Anyone else on PC notice the Pipboy is kind of framed poorly? I remember seeing screenshots and movies of the 360 version where you saw the whole Pipboy, but in my game, it spills out of the screen. Like from this screenshot, I would have a slightly clipped radiation gauge and “Boy 3000”.

Wanted to know if it was just me, just the PC version, or something they changed near release for whatever reason.
This is what I see.

Yep. Damn. That’s mildly annoying.

For some reason unbeknownst to me I bought the CE and boy am I glad I did. It wasn’t much more expensive and that lunchbox is pretty cool and that artwork booklet is really nice.
This is the first CE I’ve ever bought and I’m glad I did.
Not just you - that’s the same for me too. 1280*1024. The rad-meter is half cut off the screen.

So, don’t I get a manual if I buy the game from Steam? Some games are coupled with a PDF, but can’t find anything like that with FO3.

Damn. Just noticed it myself on the steam store page. I expected it to be found behind the right-click menu on steam client. Thanks anyway!
Not sure, but I ended up going back to the Super Save Mart about 70 hours (roughly 60 game days) after I’d originally been there, and all the bodies, items, and loot that I’d left there was still in place. I never had the balls to store anything anywhere other than my Megaton house, though.

How do you get the house?
