That did the trick. Thanks!

Well, since you asked so nicely.
Here ya go.

Glad you asked now, John E? I know I am!

Quest question:
I need a key to get into GNR. I don’t have one and I have no idea where to find one. Hilfe? Help?

Use the intercom.

what the hell are all the ham radios for? I turn them on and they don’t do anything.

What we have here is a perfect example of why it might not always be a good idea to play at four in the morning. Thanks.

Don’t feel bad, Hammet. I ran around outside checking bodies and corners and various containers desperately looking for this key for a while before noticing the intercom on the wall beside the door. Really, what they should have done is have the activation of the door by the player bring up a “knock on door” menu as you can elsewhere then have someone answer through the intercom to discuss the unlocking of the door, rather than have the player seeking entrance. It’s one of those instances where the player’s been trained over the course of the game that doors are opened by keys, picked, or unlocked through terminals and they decide to toss in a new way without pointing the players to it. Perhaps it’s punishment for not paying attention. ;)

And yeah, Marcus, I’d like to know what the ham radios are for, too.

You’re trained if you have done those optional quests involving knocking on doors, sure :)

I think they are flavor. Morse code comes over them, maybe someone who knows morse code can decipher. I dont.

RPG Codex reviews the game but doesn’t exactly shit all over it.

NMA flips their keyboards.

This really blows. I tried to use the intercom when coming back to GNR after completing a quest for a certain individual there and the entrance is locked. Confused, as I could enter before and it was never locked after the first time, I use the intercom. “The door is unlocked. Stop wasting our time”. Try it again, it’s locked. Great quest-breaking bug Bethesda. I had to escape out the back entrance the first time it occurred when it was locked while I was still inside and couldn’t get out! There’s been a couple instances of side quests breaking for me so far.

I don’t think NMA or Codex know quite what to do about Fallout 3 at this point. For all their talk about corrupt reviews, at some point even they have to acknowledge that the game is getting mostly positive buzz from actual gamers. Even NMA’s own board now has a number of defenders of the game. If the goal of the NMA approach was to scare people off and make Bethesda “pay” for the changes they made, that has clearly failed to happen.

Sarkus, do you mean that, perhaps, people actually think for themselves after all? Ack! ;)

BlakeD, the complexity of the quests (i.e. how many different ways and whens you can complete them) does lead to some glitches from time-to-time.

Small spoiler I met up with a woman early on (Silver?) who thought that Moriarty in Megaton had sent me after her. However, I had turned down his request for a favour and wouldn’t even discuss it with him. Oddly enough, my only dialogue choices implied I had discussed it with him. It’s one of those overlooked pieces where there should have been dialogue that had nothing to do with Moriarty at all (since I didn’t even know that he had anything to do with her until she confronted me about it).

Hehehe, it’s funny reading the NMA forum taking shots st the Codex because of the fairly favorable review just posted there:

The Codex has been circling the drain since VD left.
Pity.

Yeah, this thing was truly pathetic, it baffles me that they would actually put it in their front page. There’s still that review from Vince coming up sometime soon though, I expect it to be worlds better than this atrocity.

We need a good harsh review, so that people like me who have a strict, egotistical view on what is a good rpg, could feel better about themselfs for not liking this average game, which seems to be received as the second coming.

Hilarious!

There’s a few of these glitches around the place. One of the pitfalls when you mix a sandbox environment with a quest structure…

I’m kinda amazed that some of those from NMA want reviews that will validate their hate of Fallout 3 instead of fair and honest reviews.

Oh wait, no I’m not.

I thought I should let you know that I originally believed you made up that quote as satire, then I clicked on the NMA thread.

Such glitches have made me very glad I got the PC version. Simply open the console, click the door, and type ‘unlock’.

Same works for NPCs who’ve inadvertently died by some glitch, like the water pump mechanic in Megaton – open the console, click the corpse, type ‘resurrect’.

The world’s censors really don’t like this game. Japanese release gets extra censorship to remove blood and the atomic bomb detonation.
