I’ve lost count of the number of NPCs I’ve seen pushing barrels around the Wasteland because they can’t figure out how to walk around them.
So there’s a dart gun after all? I was wondering what to do with all those darts I kept collecting. And what about the railroad spikes?
There’s a steam powered “rail gun” (quotation marks used because a real rail gun uses magnetism, not steam propulsion), didn’t you watch the pre-release gameplay videos?
Duplicate schematics have special benefits, too, like improved damage, or the Nuka-nade one makes two grenades for the price of one. Love those things.
So, can anyone from Bethesda tell us (or give us a hint) if there is going to be an expansion pack (I know there will be DLC, but I mean like an expansion pack like Shivering Isles or Knights of the Nine)?
There is some incentive to tell me this: If the answer is yes then I’ll buy it for Xbox now and PC when the GOTY Edition comes out (I think we all agree that FO3 will win at least five GOTY titles), which is what I did with Oblivion (I buy two copies of every Bethesda game as long as they have expansion packs). If the answer is no, I’ll just buy it for PC now.
They’ve said from the beginning that they’re not doing stuff like Horse Armor this time around and are only doing meaty questlines like Knights of the Nine.
OK, but will they just be DLC or will they be actual expansion packs that end up in a GOTY compilation in a year?

Probably both, as that was how it was handled with Oblivion. Kathode also said they would be following the Oblivion model on another board.

Personally I wouldn’t mind if ammo had weight, if they had weapons degrade slower. Then I wouldn’t need to hold 3 weapons to repair my 1. Why do I hold three? I only like returning when I reach my max weight or when I’ve finished a quest. I don’t like the idea that I should be warping back to my home base to repair my weapon when I’m in the middle of a quest to say, save Riley’s Rangers. It just breaks the immersion for me.
So don’t. I don’t know what’s going on with you people who need to carry spare guns/repair every 4 seconds but it seems to me like your guns are made out of wet paper towels. If you have high skill with the weapon and high repair skill it is totally possible to just carry a weapon and repair immediately when you find a spare. My Hunting Rifle and Laser Rifle are both always 80-100%.
Furthermore, while it’s true that spares for weapons like the Chinese Assault Rifle and Plasma Rifle are rarer, you still don’t need to be carrying around 2 or 3 spares to use for repairs, my Chinese Assault Rifle and Plasma Rifle are both at about 20-30% quality, and still do great damage. Warp into town, sell/stash the spares, and realize that you absolutely don’t need (meaning the game doesn’t require you to, your own OCD with regards to weapon condition is your own problem) to carry around 2 or 3 of each weapon.
You’re assuming I was OCD about keeping my weapons repaired, I wasn’t. I was a big guns expert and I found it almost impossible to repair on the fly.I’m not sure about you but I didn’t find nearly as many or flamers or rocket launchers as small guns, nor did I find nearly as much ammo so yes I would need to carry about 2-3 weapons to make sure I had ammo to shoot and then 1-2 extra weapons of each type to make sure I had a weapon that worked. Maybe you haven’t specialized in big weapons, but its important to keep them in relatively good shape to make the little ammo you have worth something, when I have 20 rockets and they go from doing 40 damage to 10 I’m going to either experience a lack of survivability, a lack of ammo, or both.
Since I’ve restarted I’ve found it much easier, with small guns I can repair on the fly and low repair levels don’t destroy me nearly as much because I can always back padel somewhere firing off shots and not care nearly as much about running dry.
I guess high INT is really the key, because right now I “specialize” in Small Arms, Energy Weapons, Repair, and I have 50 sneak, 25 science, and 25 lockpicking. If I really wanted too, I could also use Big Guns after 2 or 3 levels (and I used a Fat Man with great effectiveness on a Behemoth, even though my Big Guns skill is around 20).
It seems to me that specializing in Big Guns is really a waste of time unless you have a less expensive secondary weapon for weak enemies, as Big Guns are meant for clearing out really tough enemies or a large number of enemies. If you had high INT and put some points into Small Weapons for back-up in your other game you probably would have had a much easier time. I have a Chniese Assault Rifle and a Plasma Rifle, but most of the time I just use a Laser Rifle or Hunting Rifle because really awesome weapons aren’t always required, especially if I’m going to lose money by firing it.
Yes, there’s definitely a dart gun. It does some poison damage on hit, but it’s not very good apart from that.
Yeah thats why I restarted, I had an int of 5 and specialized in big guns right away so my repair skill was low. In the end I gave up on all the other guns but the rock-it-launcher, carrying that thing with ammo weighed the same or maybe less than carrying other weapons, and it did comparable damage. I dunno maybe more people end up carrying big guns but they just don’t seem worth the headache.

Doesn’t it immobilize targets are something. I’ve built it, but haven’t tried playing with it and the in-game effects text description says something about it damaging legs.
Yeah, I seem to recall something about extreme leg damage, too. But I haven’t bothered with it. Or my Rock-It Launcher, or my Rail shooter, or…

What about the Bottlecap Mines and the Nuka-Grenade? Those are the only two custom weapons I’ve used much and they are very effective.
Haven’t tried those yet, either. I hate to risk damaging my special weapons. I have a terrible habit of stockpiling anything even remotely unique.
I’m guilty of this as well. My Bottlecap mine says it will do around 600 damage. I really justify using it on anything that 2 frags grenades or headshots will take down, so I’ve had it for about 15 hours, and I don’t see ever using it.
It strikes me that STALKER would be a very bad game to play after Fallout 3.
