Yeah, the original ending really pissed me off. The DLC is great for Fallout 3. Generally I play these games when they come out, and then I wait 2 to 3 years and buy the GOTY edition on a steam super sale with all the DLC and play it again.

Seven years after it came out, five years after buying it, after two abandoned attempts after leaving the vault, I finally played this backlog-lurker.

I’m still in the “tried multiple times but lose interest quickly” camp. As a big fan of the original F1 and F2 I could never get into this game. I never got passed the first town. I found the VATS system frustrating as well - give me an FPS or give me a tactical game - the hybrid didn’t work for me. I tend to feel Wasteland 2 is the sequel I was after.

You can play F3 as a FPS. Nothing forces you to use VATS. There is are even mods that give you bullet time in place of VATS if you like.

This. I only found VATS to be useful for a few melee skirmishes, otherwise I didn’t use it. For my second playthrough I used one of those bullet-time mods, and I much preferred it to using VATS.

IMO Fallout 3 nailed the setting. First time I set foot inside the MegaMart, I had a flashback of walking into a Walmart just after a hurricane, with no power and (some) empty shelves. So eerie.

News to me! That’s a default option or need a mod? Maybe time to re-install it. Thanks!
