I don’t like wobble, screen shake, or any of that stuff myself because it takes control from the player and it doesn’t really fix the problem. Instead it just adds a random element that the player may or may not be able to correct for. I’m happy MWO is fairly light on lots of distractions and doesn’t have things like a cone of fire which randomize aim. There are some weapons in MWO that are shotgun like such as the LBX or SRMs which are fine. You can also choose to play with weapons with very reliable aim such as lasers or ballistics. Ballistics have convergence and timing issues since you need to lead with them and the crosshair adjusts the convergence to the distance not of the mech you are aiming at, but where the crosshair is leading which can be quite a huge distance difference.

EDIT: I got a damn weird PM on the MWO forums -

People are so inexplicable sometimes.

You’re ruining the game pg, you are running it!!

The official forums are mostly only good for furry/mech cross-over fanfic.

Sad but true.
I totally avoid the MWO forum because http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/03/19 .
It’s really really awefull.

Also I PUG all the time, I jump in for 3-6 games and am out again and I like it.
Do I ruin everybody’s game just because I have only that time?
And yes, “I” “backed” the game too, since I’m a founder.

For me that just shows how broken the (forum) community for MW:O is :( .

I also jumped into MW:T and liking it so far. The AI is terrible bad but good enough to see/learn the game and due to my bad experience with the MW:O forums, so far I avoided the MW:T forum apart from the stickies and FAQs.

The MWO forums kind of follow the same rules that most online game forums do… which is that everything that I perceive as resulting in my death is cheap/noob/broken and everything that I do is leet, and noobs need to stop bitching about it.

That message about PUGs seems like a brilliant troll. It’s way too well-written (and spelled!) to be real.

I hope it is. The most boring PUG games I end up playing are the games with a well-coordinated 4-man on one side but not the other.

I saw someone on the official forum saying that his clan runs five or six four-man groups every night, and was defending against accusations that clans try to coordinate four-man launches so that they get into games together. The sleaziness of that tactic aside altogether, I wanted to clock him about the ears for running five or six four-man groups. Why not run three or four groups of eight instead, and leave the non-organized games to less organized people?

Eights are much more serious than fours. They take longer and are more competitive. You shouldn’t be grinding at all in eights but running specific builds to form a team. A lot of people shouldn’t even be playing eights unless they have certain builds. I’ve seen probably 15 groups of four running on the mumble I use at the same time. There’s a lot of fours out there.

Been a lot of updates. This patch is rather substantial, looking forward to playing tonight. PGI seems to be doing quite well since open beta. I wonder if they’ll keep it up through all of 2013. If you compare to Hawken which launched Dec. 12th, they’ve only had one major patch and one added mech since (I’d say it’s in big trouble).

Oh and then there’s this too -

Yep, I enjoy just dropping in occasionally and playing a few rounds.

The heavy energy rebalance is much appreciated. All they need to do is get their ranked matchmaking working and I will be a very happy mechwarrior.

This is what I’m afraid of. Two of the best competitive teams currently and the one filled with jump jet snipers won. If you attempt to TAG them and rain LRMs, they have line of sight on your lights TAGing and can snipe them. If you try to flank they can pivot and move to cover that area as well. The only weakness I can think of is trying to cap them to force them to move around and react. Some positions such as on top of the middle of River City allow sniping and sight of almost the whole map. EDIT: Good example at start of this video - http://www.twitch.tv/maddogncux/b/365039558

Other than snipers I see mixed builds a lot in eights and also some teams seem to favor CN9-A rushing. I think the CN9-A is the best medium, even better than the venerable HBK-4SP. Being able to lose RA, LA, RT and still operate at 100% is amazing. The extra SRM6 over the 4SP is a plus as well for striker position. Use a build similar to this -

Been having a blast lately. Playing more eights (winning about 80% of the time) and lots of grinding new mechs. My KDR continues to go up and it’s at 1.70 now (+.24 in two weeks). I don’t get many more kills but I die a lot less than I used to. I also passed over the 1000 matches mark yesterday.

Yeah, I’m fine with no dispersion / aim cones for standard running around, I just want one when Jump Jets are involved.

This game would be interesting if they ever went with Battle Values instead of tonnage, as it would seem the catapult is worth more than it’s weight.

The game is improving nicely. the netcode fixes really breathed some new life in I think, and the interface changes that are slowly coming are nice also.

Over 2000 matches for me now, and similarly my K/D has climbed from 1.45 to 1.5 over the last week (mostly lonewolfing). I have mechs with all kinds of builds and everything seems reasonably viable.

Perfect example video of mass pop tarting (some others on his channel as well). Shows how ridiculous it is. It’s pretty damn strong, hard to beat and ultimately I think if it remains very powerful a strategy that will turn off people from MWO. Used in mass numbers it’s even more effective as it becomes hard to keep track of targets or time them to fire back while the enemy team can snipe mechs trying to push. Try to flank using cover means nothing when the enemy can jump jet over it and fire.

I hate that a thread with this title keeps bubbling back up to the top.

I should make a thread titled “New single player Mechwarrior game coming?” And then no one will post in it, and I’ll know. I’ll know that it’s never going to happen.

A single player Mechwarrior would be great. I do not think it will happen in a pure form, though they have hinted at PvE content eventually for MWO (that ties into the galaxy map/mission system). As I’ve said before though that stuff feels sufficiently remote that I’ll just pretend it won’t happen unitl they announce something concrete.

MWO is a great start though!

Re: pop-tarting. It’s certainly not a problem in pug matches so far. I am guess you really need some coordination to pull it off. Also it’s very chassis limited. A bunch of guys using one of the most easily cored mechs in the game? Colour me not very afraid.

That said I agree jumping (and running!) should affect accuracy.

I’m with you. :(

One day free premium time! PGI has been killing it lately. They have been very generous recently with the cadet bonus and free premium time. They also gave free premium time to anyone who already had it due to the extended down time last patch (0.2 days but still). There’s also a sale going on, the better GXP rates seem the main thing to me.

Even at 30% off the Yen Lo Wang feels expensive for what you get.

Pretty happy about the free day of premium and double xp conversion though!

Just over 2200 matches under my belt now. Mastered 3 variants of Commando, Raven, Centurion, Cataphract, Awesome, Stalker and Atlas. Going to master one Dragon variant (the Flame, only hero mech I have bought), and am now 2/3 Mastered on the Catapult. After that probably Trebuchet and Spider!

I love this game ;)

The Pretty baby is a costly one…and I don’t really get what’s so special about it.
