Not that there’s anything wrong with that…
But seriously, they make it seem like it won’t be changed until some unspecified time in the future. So much for buying TT this year. One good thing to come of this is that companies will think twice before adopting such invasive product defense schemes.
Macrovision’s inability to make a product that doesn’t royally suck hasn’t hurt sales too bad:
NPD Top-Selling PC Software [1/29/2003 5:02:04 PM ET]
NPD Techworld has released a list of the top-selling PC software for the week of January 12 through January 18.
The top 10 were:
1. TurboTax 2002 Deluxe
2. TurboTax 2002
3. Taxcut 2002 Deluxe
4. Sim City 4
5. Norton Antivirus 2003
6. Taxcut 2002 State
7. Taxcut 2002
8. Quicken 2003
9. Microsoft Money 2003
10. TurboTax 2002 CA State
OK someone explain what happened to Quicken? I mean, didn’t it used to be tops? So bad that the FTC wouldn’t allow MS to buy them out?
I love how their plan is to “beef up customer service”. I believe there are studies that show customer-service calls costing beweeb $20-$40 apiece(with personnell, time, tracking, etc. factored in) for companies who rely on them. I wonder if all that customer-service simply negates the revenue for the product?
Well, if it wasn’t tax season, Quicken would be outselling every other piece of retail software known to man except Sim City 4 and Norton AV. How much more impressive do you want it to get?
Eh, I don’t even buy their software anymore. I file through their website (14.95 for state, 19.95 for federal I think). This way the data is kept on their server, which although potentially less secure, also safeguards me from retyping everything in if I lose my hard drive. Speaking of which, when you do go in on a second year (this is my third year filing online), it pulls down all your personal and employee information. I don’t know if this is true with the software version, but it is nice being able to electronically sign your forms as well, meaning you send in nothing at all (well, I do for Georgia, but that’s it).
