I hate Jeff Minter’s entire aesthetic, so I’d rather not be subjected to it in this game. His “light engine” or whatever for the 360 media player is the one element of the Xbox I absolutely cannot stand.

Has anyone tried the new arcade Star Trek game? Any good?

Seems like a decent subspace clone, but of minimal value if an online community doesn’t form around it.

It’s okay. I actually enjoy using the Fighter or the bomber at this point. As someone else stated, it’s a Subspace clone with 4 maps per game type. I’ll probably play it until I’ve earned all the achivements.

Looks like Wolfenstein is coming to XBLA:

I’d be pretty surprised if it came out at 400 points. It seems the typical price of XBLA games is now 800 points. If it is 400, I’ll probably pick it up. At 800…probably not.

I hated Wolfenstein 3D back when it was first released. I wonder if I’ll be more open to liking the gameplay nowadays?

Back then I really really hated the fact that if you want to find secret doors you have to go around trying to open every “wall” square, and there was no way of visually distinguishing secret door walls from normal walls.

I’d rather have Doom 2 than Doom 1, let alone Wolfenstein. Considering the Duke Nukem port did pretty poorly I don’t know who is going to be lining up for this one.

Same here! I found Doom 2 to be sooooo much better than Doom 1. The level design and enemy design was so much better. Plus… the super shotgun!!

I couldn’t find my way out of the demo level of Duke Nukem. There was an impenetrably dark room and I got irritatingly lost so I quit and deleted.

Still, I think Wolfenstein will do better than Duke for the simple fact that it’s more top of mind. I mean a Wolfenstein game has actually released in the last ten years. I have a feeling the XBLA port will coincide somewhat with the release of Raven’s new Wolfenstein game, so that should help.

That Duke Nukem port is super, super hard. The lack of ammo in the early levels really amazes me. They expect you to get a lot of kills with your kick, and never miss with a bullet. Every time I tried playing through the game, I’d get to a spot where I’d run out of ammo and run into really strong enemies.

They were never able to finish their game so why should anyone else?

I just got past Level 9 in Heavy Weapon after like 2 years of on-and-off trying, and had to share.

I hereby claim to be the best Heavy Weapon player on QT3. Few more levels and I’ll have beat the mission.

Rumor has it that The Secret of Monkey Island is coming to Xbox live

Nice, but release them on GOG.com.

perfect dark n64 this winter!!!

running in 1080p

Awesome. Perfect Dark is probably at the top of my list, in terms of time spent with a console shooter. The single-player game was okay, but it was the multiplayer that made it. Bot opponents were surprisingly good for its era. And all the little tweaks you could make – slow-motion especially – plus the challenges really upped the value.

I see there were some XBLA announcements after the E3 conference. First, there’s the new Summer of Arcade lineup:

* 'Splosion Man
* Shadow Complex
* TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-shelled
* Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
* Monkey Island Special Edition
* Trials HD

And there will be a long welcomed five-star user rating system:

I hope that you have to buy the game before being able to post a rating for it. That’s only fair.

Agreed. Thats the only useful rating.

Wolfenstein 3d is out now for 400 points.
