It really is incredible how well this game holds up ten years later. That it’s essentially a 16-bit game is even more amazing to me.
The port of Mark of the Wolves is very solid. Sound timing is right on, and we only had some minor lag in one match. The fighting system is simple but deep. If you’re someone that doesn’t play a lot of fighting games but is comfortable with fireball/dragon punch motions, you’ll have a lot of fun playing Garou.
If you’re like me and have played this game for the last ten years, you’ll just fall in love all over again, but this time with online play, too. :)
Yeah, it’s also crazy how accessible the damned thing is, while still being so tactically deep. It’s seriously as accessible as Street Fighter IV, maybe even more so, but deeper as well, because the mental game is very well developed. If you like fighting games at all, at all, even if it’s just Street Fighter up to now, even if it’s just nostalgia, I really can’t recommend this strongly enough.
Garou is and always was brilliant. I’d forgotten how fantastic the animations were, too - definitely among the smoothest and most details I can remember recently.
I still can’t use the 360 pad for fighting games, though. I really, really need a fighting stick for this, Street Fighter HD Remix, Street Fighter 4, and BlazBlue, if the latter ever gets announced for Europe.

All I know about Garou is that extarbags’ favorite characters are actually named Butt and Dong.
Garou is in my download queue, just waiting for me to turn the 360 on.
I’m having trouble pulling the trigger on Garou with Blazblue and King of Fighters 12 right around the corner.
KoF XII was pushed back to at least the end of the month.
Worse, KoF '98 Ultimate Match is coming to XBLA at the end of the month. That’s also highly, highly recommended. I have it on PS2 but I will re-buy on XBLA.
Either way, Mark of the Wolves is just superb. I kicked extarbags Butt and Dong around last night online and hope to get online for more Butt and Dong kicking tonight!
Let’s keep this discussion about the game, please.
I even did it in front of the kids!
I had a chance to play online some today, and I’ve gotten quite a bit better. I’m really starting to get a good grip on Dong. Butt is still a little harder for me to get into, though.
For what it’s worth, I actually feel a little bad because I kind of stopped being as excited for Blazblue. This game is seriously… I’m not sure I’ve played a fighting game better than this one. Anyway, I’m sure Blazblue will be excellent as well, but if you like fighters enough to spend sixty bucks on that, you definitely owe it to yourself to spend ten bucks on this.
I’m in the same boat. Not intending hyperbole, but considering Blazblue is so close: Will this make me feel like the baby Jesus is tugging my fightstick?
I think so. If you’ve never played it, you’re in for a treat. There are those who think this is better than SF3:Third Strike, which is one of the highest rated fighting games among long time players.
I think they’re about even, but because I’m a much bigger fan of the SNK characters and settings, I far prefer Mark of the Wolves.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t get on the TV tonight. :(
Wow, it’s at least six hundred times better than Third Strike.
If GMW = 6 * SF3S then fenrrris buys GMW. I like me some Third Strike and if it’s that good then I love me some GMW.
Edit: NO, if GMW = 600 * SF3S then fenrrris DEFINITELY buys GMW.
Edit edit: I don’t know what the math means but I just bought it.
Anyone else buy the new Worms game? It’s much better than the first arcade release, feels just like it did on PC. The double jump is still temperamental, the ninja rope is still a challenge to use, and the concrete donkey is still the best weapon ever made. There’s a nice variety in the single player matches too. Most are just deathmatches, but there are some where you have to kill enemies in puzzle-y ways and there are also some races using the jetpack or ninja rope. I haven’t tried online play yet, still earning coins for all the unlocks, but I’ll probably do a couple matches later this evening if anyone wants to have a round.

Sweet! The first Worms XBLA release was good, but was pretty disappointed with how many weapons were missing (namely the bat).
I played an unbelievable amount of Worms 2. I am looking forward to this!
Holy Hand Grenade = best weapon. I love the sound sample when it hits!
