The 49ers lost their trap game, but we got this out of it:

So Brees right now is 29-30 passing, for 307 yards and 4 TDs and no INTs. He’s averaging 10.2 yards pp. And he doesn’t have a perfect rating! How can this be? His passes aren’t going for enough yards?

He’s close with a 148.9, but it’s not that 158.9 rating.

Sadly, yes. There are four segments for the stat which “max out” at a rating factor of 2.375 (then divided by .06 and added together). The yards per attempt portion is (YDS/ATT - 3) * .25, meaning a QB needs to throw for 12.5 yards/attempt or better to max out that portion of the formula.

Yeah, not a whole lot of people get 5 2nd chances in real life…

This. I mean, I quite honestly feel the guy wouldn’t have multiple stints in rehab just for pot. Maybe, but really?

There may be some confusion as to what drug test he failed, as of now they are just saying he failed a “PED and controlled substances” test. Odds are it is for weed as his previous failed tests did not involve PEDs.

EDIT: Well, it does look like PEDs were involved.

You’ve never met any white men?

Dan Shaunessy – resident Globe Curmudgeon – has a nice write-up on his thoughts on the taping.

I find myself aligned with his thinking after finding out that a: the Kraft producer has been there for 18 years. Some of my leeway was thinking a new-is hire, yada yada; and b: the guy’s wife is involved with Bill’s foundation (I think she is the CEO).

Paywalled.

If you use a Read-it-later service (Instapaper, Pocket) it grabs the content.

That’s a pretty effective slam job considering the guy’s a long-term Boston writer.

Thanks, I’ve never used Pocket before, that works really well!

Well, Dan has always been the resident grump on the Globe staff.

9 year anniversary of this :)

And in Tecmo bowl format:

And posted one day after Coughlin was fired by the Jaguars. Coincidence? The video reminded me that I miss his querulous expression on the sidelines. In related news, the clocks in the Jaguars’ facility have been set to the correct time for the first time in three years.

The stories coming out now…

Now, this isn’t because they sat during the anthem. They sat on the bench during a game that both of them were inactive for due to injuries. $100K each.

That’s abusive. I hope they appealed that fine.

NFL owners, GMs, and coaches. The only people on the face of the earth that could possibly make you feel badly for an NFL player.

He did say that they wanted their money back and that it all worked out fine. So I am guessing they revoked the fine or the Union got involved and had it revoked.

Good. That’s a steep fine for a trivial offense.

Ah yes. Dallas loses to Philly. Supposed best offense in the NFL can’t score a single towchdown. Playoffs almost gone.

Great win for Philadelphia with all the key players they had out.
