IMO, the strategy was probably correct, it just didn’t work out. We don’t have the counterfactual of Fitz with a timeout and some time to get down the field.

Yeah the odds of the confluence of the events that gave Miami the winning score happening are really low. In football, you play the odds and the odds were favorable for Oakland kicking the field goal. Unfortunately, sometime even really long odds get beat. That being said, I would have gone for the touchdown on 3rd and then kicked rather than give up those extra 4 points for a bit of clock. So I’m in the group that understands the call and even acknowledges that it gave them very favorable odds of winning but feels that I would have gone the other way.
It’s not a bad strategy but I’d take the TD over the FG. The TD was a sure thing. The FG can be blocked (rare) or have a bad snap or Tony Romo as the holder.
Also, if the other team needs a FG to win instead of a TD, they presumably only have to get to the rival team’s 40 to have a shot. If you start at the 25 yard line that means you only need 35 yards against a prevent defense. You give them more clock if you get the TD but it’s a lot harder to score a TD than a FG.

The Steelers are losing so if the Browns can come back, they play next week for the division.

Browns and Dolphins are the two most likely to lose next week. Colts are playing Jacksonville… they should be in. It would be fitting for the Browns to lose and miss out in both their 10 win seasons since coming back.
If the Browns, Dolphins, and Ravens win I think the Colts can’t get a wild card. They could still win the division, though. The Titans play the Packers tonight and Houston in the final week. I think if the Colts and Titans are tied the Titans win, but the Colts could still end up 11-5 and the Titans could finish 10-6.
The Packers are playing clinch HFA and a bye, so they have a lot to play for tonight. It will be a tough game for the Titans playing at Lambeau.
