The Foles trade was dumb, but ultimately they are only paying about $10-15M more over 3 years for their backup QB than a lot of teams. So as far as repercussions for the trade it’s the 4th round pick and 3-5M a year cap hit.
Trubisky was two 3rds and a 4th to move up one spot for a dude who wasn’t even good in college. Even if they loved his tape it’s pretty insane to rate him as two 3rds and a 4th worth to move up one spot when Watson would be there if someone took Mitchell. Imagine if they didn’t make the trade and spent those picks on the offensive line.
They must have realized/determined there was no real trade value for him in the offseason forthcoming.
My guess, too, and they may have wanted to free up a roster spot before this next game. They may need to sign another QB if Smith can’t play.
There are going to be better QBs available in the off season than Haskins. No one is going to line up to sign him.
Haskins was drafted before RIverboat Ron was hired, and Riverboat Ron has had it with Haskins’ shit.
Still don’t think the Trubisky pick was a total failure. When he’s had a decent offensive line, he’s been OK (2018). When he hasn’t, he hasn’t been (2019). If I’m going to blame Pace for anything - other than two bad FA QB signings - it’s not building up the offensive line to protect their QBs. You can’t sign a statue like Foles and expect him to succeed behind a shitty offensive line.
Some team might take a chance on Haskins considering he’s still on a rookie deal.
Just like Cam Newton, only cheaper.

Cam is a good leader. He’s just not your standard QB personality.

I didn’t say it was a “total failure” but I would also say that taking him at #2 comes with expectations that he failed to live up to, especially when you factor in that Pat Mahomes and Deshaun Watson were also there for the taking. His numbers dont live up and the Bears declined his 5th year option. If you want to slice failure into levels, that’s fine but surely you have to admit that as a #2 pick in the draft he has not delivered to expectations. Which gets me back to the point that if he had, they wouldn’t have signed Foles. The other stuff like the o-line and such is not really pertinent to that point still it certainly does call into question as to how they thought Foles would be a viable option. Regardless, it was their lack of confidence in Trubisky that led to that signing.
Agreed, although nobody really knew if Watson or Mahomes (the latter, especially) would pan out. I think Watson was probably the best pick at the time, although a number of people thought Trubisky was the best - so it’s not like Pace was the only one to (wrongly) see something in him.
As for Adam_B’s response - I’d take Trubisky over Cousins every day of the week. At least Trubisky is on a rookie contract. Cousins is just an overpayed, and over-arrogant given his talent level, asshole.

I wonder what the Steelers and Bills do next week. Both are guaranteed the 3 seed at worst, and the 2 seed at best. That means neither will get a bye, and they’re both safe from having to face KC in the second round. Given that home-field advantage isn’t as important this year, I wonder if one or both teams sit some starters, especially if they fall behind early.
Another wrinkle is that both teams could potentially knock a division rival out of the playoffs with a win.
Mason Rudolph will get the start at QB when the Steelers visit the Browns this Sunday.
Oh, the cameras are going to be tracking Myles Garrett all game.
Ben is going to dress, though. Sure they will be watching the scoreboard
