They accomplished all that they needed to in this year’s playoffs. They can go on vacation now.

Excuse me sir, he’s a ‘game manager’.

As a Packers fan, I am sad. As a human being, I am happy Aaron Rodgers is sad.

If the 49ers end up playing the Bucs, they will go to the Super Bowl.

Shit, if they manage to knock out both Rodgers and Brady, I’ll even have to root for them.

This is the curse that blocked the punt.
Boy, Twitter is just dunking on Aaron Rodgers.
Lol, watch the replay of the FG. Pack only had 10 men on the field.
I did not watch any football tonight.
What a delightful present to come home to.
Rodgers is gonna be gone. Packers are in for a few lean years, I’m afraid.
Sounds like he’s gonna do his own research.

That is possible, but the Saints have been on that list for a few years now and always manage to solve their cap issues without losing major players. FWIW, the Cowboys are also significantly over the cap as it stands. So if GB wants to keep Rodgers and he wants to stay, I think they will figure out a way to make it happen. Rodgers mentioning retirement did catch me a big off guard as that is not a scenario that I’d been considering as likely.
Thank you @Woolen_Horde, @charmtrap and @triggercut for those wonderful post-game tweets.
This Athletic piece is pretty good:
Light the league on fire in the regular season … underwhelm when it matters most in the playoffs. That has become the norm for Rodgers, who was named Super Bowl MVP almost 11 years ago but hasn’t done much worth celebrating in the postseason since.
He’s arguably the most talented thrower of a football the NFL has ever seen and a first-ballot lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but this is yet another stain on his resume that has had plenty of them around this time of year since he last hoisted the Lombardi Trophy.
Instead, the Packers’ title hopes crashed and burned on Saturday night, swaths of red and little green filling the lower bowels of Lambeau Field well after the 49ers danced and hollered and slid headfirst on the snow-slicked grass.
And this likely unintentional gem:
He lamented not taking enough deep shots.
The Saints got some deals restructured for 2021 – and let some key players, like Jared Cook go – and had Drew Brees’ come off the books. All of which helped them get under the cap for 2021, but what a lot of that did was to kick the can down the road. Now it’s put them so far over the cap heading into 2022 that they’re going to have to do amputations to their roster for next season, as opposed to surgical removals.

So many good social media shots at Rodgers. Two of my favorites…
Aaron Rodgers just led the Packers to their worst playoff loss in Moderna history.
and
You people need to stop making fun of Aaron. He clearly hates being needled!

I think that the point with the Saints is that they were way over the cap doing ridiculous things during the Brees years and just finally now are going for a reset now that the window is closed.

There are rumors today that Sean Payton may walk away from the last two years of his contract, so maybe that’s related.
It has caught up to the Saints as it can’t be done forever, but Green Bay could go that route for a year or two if they wanted to. It is not how they usually operate, though.
