Holy crap, I went 6-8 today? I was so locked in on watching the Miami and Jets games today, I didn’t even notice it.

NBC just announced during the Giants / Panthers game that next Sunday night’s matchup will be Denver / San Diego, which means the Miami / Jets matchup will be a day game, and not the frigid nighttime affair it seemed destined to be earlier in the week.

I’ll be very curious to see what kind of reception Pennington gets in his first game back at the Meadowlands. If these were two 6-10 teams with nothing on the line, I imagine he’d get a nice reception. But with the Jets’ once-promising season collapsing and the castoff Pennington leading the Dolphins to a potential division title, I have a feeling there won’t be many warm fuzzies floating about.

What is weird is that these late season upsets aren’t due to the usual reason of key players being sat by teams that don’t have anything to gain.

At least the game tonight is living up to the hype of two really, really good teams playing each other.

If that were the case, the Rimbot would dominate.

And it’s pretty clear that there weren’t THAT many upsets, given that the Rimbot did well. The Rimbot only does badly when teams that are supposed to win don’t…

Great article on the Lions and Detroit’s larger troubles.

John Masco is a Detroit sports fan.

In his basement in suburban Westland, he has a framed edition of a local newspaper after the championships of local team: Red Wings, Pistons, etc. He even has one when the Michigan Panthers won the now defunct USFL.

He has just one newspaper that mentions the Lions. It’s from Nov. 23, 1963. In big letters it reports the assassination of President Kennedy.

Down at the bottom it says: ‘Ford completes buy of Lions,’ ” Masco laughs. “What other day could it be than the same one Kennedy got killed?”

Marinelli was repeatedly asked about the job done by defensive coordinator Joe Barry, who is his son-in-law. It’s a relationship that infuriates fans: cronyism killing the team. Marinelli wouldn’t specifically blame Barry. This was on the head coach first.

Finally Detroit News columnist Rob Parker laid it out.

“Do you wish your daughter had married a better defensive coordinator?”

“Next question,” Marinelli said.

It’s gonna be a tough Sunday for Packers fans. Many are unconvinced it will be an easy win.

While Detroit’s offense will man up and make a decent effort, the defense will lose it for them – Rogers and Jennings are going to destroy the Lions’ secondary.

From what I’ve heard, the Lions have basically quit on the season. I can’t imagine they’ll somehow change that, especially if GB gets up early.

They’ll try hard on Sunday – the players really, really, REALLY don’t want 0-16 hanging around their necks for the rest of their lives.

So, expect to see some turnovers as the Lions desperately try to force big plays.

That’s what funny about the game - it may actually be exciting, as Lions players try to avoid the dreaded oh-fer and Packers players try to avoid what might be the final nail in McCarthy’s coffin.

I feel badly for the Lions players, as some of them are really competitive people and good players. I know they hate being where they are right now. You have to blame the org.
