Nhl 11

How many seasons can you play in the Be a Pro mode?

Ya, I loved the concept in Madden… except in two games when all of my contracts expire. The math just isn’t there for you to upgrade AND keep players. It is one or the other.

I don’t have high hopes for NHL, but I’d love to be wrong.

This was my real worry. My fear was that EA would design this to be a giant quarter machine. If you don’t feed it, you can’t play.

Pretty sure it is unlimited or until they force you to retire. You can be dealt to other teams as well and maybe even have your skills decline with age I think.

Yeah, I am not sure how it is going to work. In Madden you can only play pro football teams so you pretty much have to play on pro difficulty until you beef your team up. In NHL you can play AHL teams, Canadian juniors, or European league teams so you can go up against more skill appropriate teams even if you keep your team lower end. You can also improve your players and there is some concept of signing them when they are cheap then improving them really high. Since you can see the number of improvements you can do on a player, and choose which you apply, so it seems pretty low risk. It may be if you manage it right you can have a reasonable team.

Very cool. I think it was limited to just a few seasons in the FIFA series.

For anyone who plays dynasty mode they added UFAs and RFAs into the offseason mix: http://www.easports.com/blogs/inthecrease/post/slug/restricted-and-unrestricted-free-agency-its-in-the-game

Ya I’m really looking forward to this game seems like every year there are more of the little things added to make for a more immersive experience.

Some EASHL Q & A summarized:

So normal/all-star will be the level for the EASHL for those playing on default/pro in the demo. You can play Battle for the Cup in normal/all-star. Passing can be tricky in this mode in that the passing is less accurate and you can pass too hard and the recipient will fumble the pass.

Good info. Still not keen on injuries in EASHL, will have to see how it plays out. Hope the time after play from the demo is in EASHL, cannot stand wasting even 5 seconds waiting for that crap. Really, really hoping Littman has finally woken up and figured out small, light players need to FALL down when hit by big bulky ones, and that simply dragging the puck off hand as a dangler should not = impossible to poke away. If those issues are addressed I think this is going to be the best NHL yet. Played a ton of the demo so far.

All attributes and increase costs for all player types from the main gameplay dev:

I will have some more analysis of this up at some point.

If anyone was looking for a good explanation of some of the attributes, here’s a link:

Already toying with builds:

Two-Way Forward with Legend Card

DEK 85
HE 85
OA 85
PAS 90 (includes +5 boost)
PC 90 (+5)
WSA 87 (+5)
WSP 85 (+5)

AGG 85
BC 85
DA 90
DSC 85
SB 80
SC 85

ACC 90 (+5)
AGI 90 (+5)
BAL 80
DUR 68
END 80
SPD 85 (+5)
STR 70

Not knowing exactly the effect of all the attributes yet that looks pretty good and that is only using 7 boosts not 12 so I could potentially shore up some areas. The biggest change to me is there are now 7 potentially important attributes in athletics as opposed to three from last year (Acceleration, agility, speed) so you will have to spread yourself thin or really focus on what you want to be good at. Still that build on the surface looks good offensively (basically what I was running last year), great defensively (better than I ran last year), and should skate well (slightly worse than I was last year).

Be aware those are for NHL 10. Some haven’t changed but some don’t exist anymore.

In the help section of the demo there is a description of what all the attributes do in NHL 11.

Custom Jerseys!

EA Developer Chat on EASHL improvements, highlights and my impressions are here:

…using the same 12 or so tired, uninspired, and downright hideous logos EA’s been packaging with the game for the last 10 years or so?

I think they added a lot more. In any event, custom colors as well.

Still no word on the much-requested, must be simple to program Captain and Alternate badges for jerseys? Otherwise really good changes, appreciate the summary X.

Wait wait, I’m looking at the attribute page. Did they take out the consistently broken, always used and abused dangler class?? For reals? Or am I just blind?
