It would be unlikely to find a deal… you might be able to find something like. “buy a Switch at target and get a $20 target GC” I haven’t looked yet.
If there is a particular game and/or a particular coloring console you want - go with that. (grey, neon blue/red, Mario Odyssey Red, Splatoon 2 green/pink)
I wish there was at least one somewhat muted color besides grey. All of these colors coming out are great, but they are all very brightly colored. I would love a muted purple, burgundy, or navy set of Joycons, but I guess I’d probably be the only person to buy them.
Ahh but can’t you turn on the console by pressing a button on the pro controller? ;)
You sound pretty certain of this… there’s already a sale category in Switch eShop, why wouldn’t it go on sale? The first Dig and Steamworld Heist both had 50-75% off sales on 3DS.
I’m actually not sure - I have tried a few times (I turn on my PS4 with the home button) but it doesn’t seem to work. Maybe I’m trying the wrong button? I’m right next to the console when I disconnect the controller anyway, so tapping the power button and having it on and ready to go by the time I get to my chair has been working really well, though the pro controller holds a charge for a freakish amount of time so having it work to power on the console (and thus the TV as well) would be a nice little boon.
I’m not 100% sure, of course, but I do feel like Nintendo discounts their digital games MUCH more infrequently than Steam does.
I hold the Home button down on the pro controller and it turns the Switch on. You’ll feel a little kick in the rumble when it connects. Give it a go!
It does work, but I have no clue what button does it. I feel like I have to press every button multiple times to get it to turn on.
Very cool, I’ll give it a try tonight. Thanks!
@delirium that’s been my experience, sans having it ever work. I may not have been holding HOME down long enough, sounds like.
Yeah it takes a second or two. It’s the same way you turn it ‘off’, by holding Home to bring up the sleep menu.
LOL I haven’t been doing this either, when I’m done I just walk over and poke the power button again on the console, same as how I turn it off.
Well at least you’re getting some exercise! :)
Holding the home button turns it on. This is true. You’ll feel a rumble through the Pro Controller when it turns on.
Don’t expect a discount on the hardware anytime soon. It’s possible some games will be in a buy 2 get 1 sale before Christmas but I doubt we’ll see any big discounts there either. It is absolutely the hot item this Christmas other than the Super NES Classic.

That’s exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Thanks!
I think the best you are likely to find is MAYBE a value Bundle of some sort. Like maybe you save a few bucks buying the system, Mario, and a pro controller or something of that nature.
Btw, as someone who bought both a PS4 and a vita, then barely used either, I totally understand where you are coming from.
Looked at the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 direct. I loved the first one and this one looks really interesting to me as well. I was all gung ho about pre-ordering it but now I don’t know. I’m knee deep in Destiny but I bought Mario and haven’t been able to touch it yet. Too much gaming going on right now
Post of the Week! Thanks!
A couple more data points on the Switch:
-
The Switch is livin’ the dream. Specifically, the dream of being able to play the same game at home or on the go with little compromise in the experience either way. It was a dream I’ve had for a while, but I have to admit that I didn’t think it was a dream shared by enough other people to make the Switch a hit. Glad I was wrong.
-
This thing is going to be a godsend for Xenoblade Chronicles 2: I’ll be able to work on the grindy bits whenever I find some time on the go while still being able to explore the enormous, gorgeous world on the big screen.

I’m disappointed in the options for playing locally with my young kids, but keep in mind that a) we already had Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U, b) ARMS hasn’t clicked with us yet, and c) I’m still bitter as hell about the lack of a local, single-system multiplayer mode in Splatoon 2 (not even the terrible mode that was in the original).
I agree that there should be more multiplayer offerings. I’m hoping that’s addressed in 2018. On the other hand, gaming in general has seriously moved away from that. Same-screen multiplayer is something you have to search for. Even split-screen is down to two players most times if it’s available at all.
Your “livin’ the dream” is exactly the catalyst for that too. Playing the same game at home or on the go often means playing solo, or at best playing with/against someone who owns their own system. Loss of a variety of multiplayer is a price we’re paying for the portability of the system.
Again though, I’m thinking there is more on the horizon to make things better. Given the price of the JoyCons and the Pro Controller, maybe that’s something they considered with the first year lineup? Put out more solo type stuff since it will take awhile for people to buy more controllers for multiplayer beyond what you can do out of the box?

Have you tried Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, Overcooked, or Snipperclips?
I just stumbled across this on Amazon…

I was checking the price and availability of Skyrim and that came up in the search. The interesting thing is the JoyCon Trigger grip which seems to add more bulk to the JoyCons when using them in a Grip style over the one that ships with the system. HORI typically makes good stuff and judging by the pic, there are buttons on the back there that much contact the triggers on the JoyCons. Might be something for people with bigger hands to look into?

I’ll second Clay. They’re all tremendous local multiplayer games.
This is a nice look at the differences between all versions of DOOM including the Switch.
Certainly losing sharpness, but still looks like the same game. Closer to Xbox One at times than I ever thought it would be. Nice.
