What’s the point of the pizza box-sized special edition packaging? Is there something in there or is it just empty space?
How is the dock scratching people’s switches? Mine has a guide on the inside and no scratchy surfaces that I can see
I think people are saying that the guides are what’s actually scratching the screen over time. Mine seems fine so far, but I’m paranoid enough that I’m getting a screen protector anyway, even though I don’t have one on any of my other devices.
To be clear though, it’s not the screen that’s reportedly scratching, it’s the bezel.
I’m not sure what the distinction is, but people are talking about the plastic itself being scratched, even though it’s not the part covering the screen. I would say any part of the glass/plastic front would be considered the screen.
I have some sticky-backed felt lying around, maybe I should put a couple strips of that in the dock?
Or do you reckon this is a ploy to sell more screen protectors? ;)
Obviously Nintendo is in cahoots with “big screen protector”.
Haha! I’m more thinking of the one site that reported this, and how in the story they use an Amazon referral link to a screen protector…
They probably scratched it up with a Stanley knife! ;)
Well it took all weekend but it’s sold out around here now. Good for Nintendo. Hopefully they make more one day.
Definitely overpriced and gimmicky and now that I can’t get my hands on one I totally must have one

I gotta say, while I’m absolutely loving Zelda on my Wii U, I do wish I could take it around with me :-(
It’s the first time I’ve seriously used the Wii U gamepad just to play the game (not on the TV I mean) and the limited range immediately frustrated me, so I can definitely see the appeal.
finally I understand the Switch. It is a handheld, a new Nintendo handheld… with TV output. I always thought Nintendo made the best gaming handhelds anyway. So that’s great. I am happy with my Wii U, but I could imagine getting a new Nintendo handheld sometime in the future. So what must haves are coming out for the Switch, besides Zelda (bought it for the Wii U)…?
In the near term, not a lot (especially if you have a Wii U and another handheld already). Splatoon 2, if you like Splatoon. Super Mario Odyssey at some point shortly before Christmas. Steamworld Dig 2. The Toejam reboot. Yooka Laylee, if that turns out to be good.
If you don’t mind ports of games you already own - Mario Kart 8, Skyrim, Binding of Isaac, Stardew Valley

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is, in theory, supposed to be 2017 as well, and fits into the must-have category for me at least. Not 100% sure I believe that release date, but…
Fair enough. I never played the original and I’ve totally gone off JRPGs, but I know it has a strong following, especially here.
Yeah. This is why I bit on the Switch. I have tried using the WiiU as a semi-portable and it is not an easy thing. It really is a sexy feature to have full console (TV) and full portability on a device without compromise. It is not as obvious of a feature as 4k, 3D, 500 frames per second in your face FPS of the year 'splosions, but… it IS really cool.
Play anywhere and anytime Monster Hunter? Open world Zelda? Xenoblade? Even ad hoc portable multiplayer Mario Kart? A slew of indys or whatever else comes out of the 3DS development folding into the Switch? That little feature of hybrid portable and console is actually a pretty big deal. Even if that just means the freedom to keep playing while someone else wants the TV. Or taking a game on a commute. Or vacation. Or just sitting wherever you darn well please in your house instead of on the couch.
Yeah, I liked being able to play Zelda this weekend while my roommates were watching something on the TV, but I felt like it was some passive-aggressive move to sit there on the couch in front of the TV with them, like I was trying to send a message that they should really let me have the TV.

waited too long on that protector… now going to have to wait a week or so, as it’s on backorder… :/
So I have a pro-controller (but haven’t opened it up yet). Is this controller really the main way to go? I’ve watched so many youtube videos talking about if it is or isn’t all that. I my head’s now swimming. What I will most likely seeing myself often doing is playing with it my study un-docked. So with the Switch on its kickstand.
Would some of you play with it like that with the pro-controller? Or just pick up the switch and use the joy-con’s - either connected to the main screen or just stand alone.
I certainly would do that, but I can also see using the cons. I like them both. I also, fwiw, really like the pro controllers feel.
