Any issues with internet connectivity? I was able to connect to wifi and update in portable mode, but when docked (even if I can see the router) it won’t connect/ obtain an IP.

Edit: Solved. While I like the Switch, their design decisions considering wireless transmissions are complete crap. The wire placement inside the left joycon leads to issues (see YouTube for more). Now I have confirmed that however they are setting up their wifi for the main unit is prone to blockage by being docked.

I did multiple tests both docked and undocked at varying locations and distances to my router. I concluded that the range and signal strength of the Switch in general is iffy and putting it in a dock is like putting other electronics in a shielded box (even though the dock is mostly hollow plastic). Of course the most natural spot for a docked Switch in my home chokes the wifi down to Kbps if not total disconnect. Luckily I have the good ol’ USB Ethernet dongle from my Wii Monster Hunter Tri days. It works fantastic on the Switch. Yeah, that totally won’t be addressed quietly in future hardware revisions. 0o

I noticed in terms of the wifi strength showing on the switch undocked appears to be weaker than other devices that I have on my network.

Yea Wifi is weak, but it is 2 feet away from my router when docked (to the detriment of my joy con signal) so I’m good.

Lower wifi strength undocked could easily be because they are entering power savings mode to conserve battery life - much like your cell phone can do.

Except the wifi signal is stronger undocked over docked. I believe what ducker was saying was that the undocked Switch has a suspiciously low wifi signal when compared to other free roaming wifi devices. I agree. Even hovering over my router the Switch had fairly low strength while undocked. Docked was noticeably worse to the point that it can see but can’t communicate with my router from next to my TV. If I undock it at the exact same spot, I can now stream demo videos.

Basically, the wifi on the Switch is terribad.

Maybe you guys need one of those signal booster strips. Someone could make it in the shape of the triforce. ;)

In about a month, Capcom is releasing a compilation featuring 6 of their Disney licensed NES games in the Disney Afternoon Collection. Despite being a collection of games that made their names on Nintendo platforms, it’s not planned for Switch.

That paired with the upcoming forty dollar re-release of Street Fighter II says to me that Capcom doesn’t much care about the Switch.

It sounds like you can’t get onto a cartridge for less than $40 retail.

I’m actually getting hyped for my second Switch game, Has Been Heroes which is releasing for $19. But yeah, when I saw Isaac as a $40 retail product I realized that portability will have a price.

Retro, Indy, or re-release is pretty cool for a hybrid platform, but I’m not sure it can fly at the prices they are aiming at. Even though I have the original Binding of Isaac on Vita, I was thinking about grabbing the super whatever version for Switch as it is sort of the ideal 10 minutes or 3 hour type game. At $40 though, I think Has Been Heroes will earn that spot.

They’re too busy working on Monster Hunter 5 Switch to bother with that nonsense!

I hope. :)

Oh man. Monster Hunter is up there on my all time favorites. However it started to get repetitive with recycled content in each release, so I took a break for the last few versions. Thus I am super excited to get whatever is new in MH5 (or generation ultimate G, or… whatever they call it) plus the new things from the last few releases to really boost the experience. Which is awesome because I think the Switch is probably the BEST machine possible to ever have a western release of the MH franchise. I used to beg for a PS4 version, but I think Switch is an even better option. Well, minus the still unknown voice chat options.

Note that The Binding of Isaac on Switch is a compilation of the Rebirth version of the game and its two expansions, and the only non-PC version of Afterbirth+ (which itself only just came out back in January on PC). At full price, the same content would be $36 on PC, so $4 more to have it on a portable platform seems like a perfectly reasonable rate.

Exactly… although I haven’t had any issues connecting yet. I haven’t really tried to do much online content (I just picked up FAST RMX)

Now though, I’ve found the weak ass connection the joy-con controllers have. I put my switch right behind my TV on my table (since I can’t lay it flat. . … that’s another whole gripe) But I can’t play from my couch 8 feed away with the Joy-Con’s with the console behind my TV. Kinda annoying. and forces me to put the console in a not ideal location.

So both the wifi and the bluetooth(?) connection of the joy-con’s appear to be pretty frickin weak sauce.

Nintendo knew all this ahead of time. Doesn’t that make you all kinda mad? Because let’s be honest, if you have most of these issues and Nintendo won’t keep replacing Switch units, you are paying insane gobs of money to keep buying stuff aftermarket or propads or workarounds etc. honestly it just seems insane. And some of it is simply greed on a level I didn’t realize Nintendo had in them. I’ve heard Zelda is great, but yikes that is a lot of bull crap to have to put up with and generally Nintendo is throwing your money in the trash every time you reach for Amazon to try and make one more defect right.

Anyone thought about testing out the region-free?

Disgaea 5 Complete doesn’t launch until May in the West for some reason (localisation would have already been done for the PS4 version) but has English text and voice support:

yes and no… I mean I don’t plan on going that far from a wifi connection - I gave Fast RMX online a try and didn’t see any issues (although I’m really bad at it)

In terms of the joycon’s not connecting. That was solved by moving the base system next to the TV instead of behind it. I do wish I could lay it flat though :/

What’s stopping you? Just load it in the dock like its an nes cartridge.

Gamestop is getting a large enough stock in on Wednesday that they’re advertising it and bumping up trade values on a few consoles.

FYI, they also have some other good stuff, like 50% bonus on all tech trades and up to $50 extra on any iPod or iPad. Looks like my iPad 4 is worth 120-130 with the bonus.

Is that $150 for a 3DS trade-in? That’s really tempting if true. I bought a 3DS last Christmas and while I really like it (and it’s massive back catalogue), half off to upgrade to what would basically be an HD handheld replacement is very tempting. My only issue is that the only game I’m interested in for at the next 6 months is Zelda and I’m already 10 hours in on my Wii U.
