I only fiddled with it in undocked mode. It played very fine, the police seemed a bit small but I’ve seen worse. But I still wouldn’t play it that way, and I understand most people doing it just use it to load their PC save.
I just saw the Switch got its remarketed The Golf Club 2 release. It comes with a level editor, but I can’t find info if you can access the library of other platforms or not.
I’ll wait for a sale anyway, as the original game got so many different responses to it.
I haven’t played a “real” (e.g., not-Mario-themed) sports game probably since a cousin or friend dragged me into some Madden on a Genesis or SNES when I was kid, but NBA 2K20 for $5 was tempting. I’ve become an increasingly invested fan of the league over the last 5 years or so, after sorta vaguely thinking it was neat during the Jordan years while I was growing up and then losing track of it in high school/college. No idea what bball games actually entail though. And I heard a lot of doom and gloom about microtransactions being required to do anything cool in the recent 2k games. Any thoughts or advice for someone who has effectively never played a basketball videogame in his life, but thinks he might want to?
Well, it’s the price of a large coffee for one thing. So it’s not a large investment. The microtransactions seem to be for buying card packs for your fantasy team thing and clothes for your RPGlite player. Neither of which requires any money unless you want to use those things online competitively from what I can tell.
The game looks good, but again I suck hard at it. But I haven’t tried the franchise mode @morlac mentioned above. That sounds cool. To be fair to the controls you can play and learn. They’re not impossible. But I haven’t found a good tutorial built into the game yet. The one I did find wasn’t one you progressed thru. You just picked things to practice. But again there could be one somewhere.
For a fiver I’d jump on it. And I did. Plus I’m a whore for opening card packs. But not so much I have to buy them so that part isn’t a player for me.
So, if you’re into arcade-y sports games even if you can nothing about the real sport…
“Super Mega Baseball 3” is shocking good and great on the switch.
Also, free demo.

Nintendo Co. plans to debut an upgraded model of its Switch console next year along with a lineup of new games, people familiar with the matter said, ceding 2020’s holiday spotlight to rival devices from Sony Corp. and Microsoft Corp.
The specifications of the new machine have yet to be finalized, though the Kyoto-based company has looked into including more computing power and 4K high-definition graphics, people briefed on the strategy told Bloomberg News, asking not to be identified because it’s private.
The release of the upgraded Switch would be coupled with, or followed by, a slew of games from Nintendo itself and related outside studios, the people said. Those games would address a wide range of players, from casual gamers seeking small doses of escapism to more devoted fans putting in marathon gaming sessions. The focus on next year’s pipeline explains Nintendo’s relatively quiet software release schedule so far this year, the people said.
I might be down for upgrading, but all I really want is to hear more about BOTW II.
Couldn’t care less about 4K on the Switch (nor do I particularly believe it) unless it also means at least 1080p undocked.
Isn’t it like Forbes where they provide a minimally vetted blogging platform for just about any asshole off the street? The article is certainly amateurish enough.
I also doubt the 4K stuff. I would say it’s impossible but I suppose there’s a chance that the “Switch Pro” could support DLSS 2.
Also predicting enhanced interactivity with “Smell O Play” support from a “scent port” in the new Switch.
Sounds like a fancy way to say you never clean your buttons ¬_¬
I could maybe see a device that outputs a 4K signal. But at best it would be “4K” gaming a la PS Pro.
DLSS requires RTX hardware and a specific type of game engine implementation (supports TAA and outputs motion vectors) so I wouldn’t hold your breath for that on Switch! :)
If anything, the GPU upgrade would likely be a newer Tegra right?
I’d absolutely buy a software-compatible Switch Pro upgrade if it reliably did 1080p at 30-60 frames in TV mode! The current system is great but REALLY underpowered for some games & can bare run them at 30fps with dynamic resolution scaling way down to 500p. It makes those games look super soft / fuzzy.
Yes, I think you’re right. But because NVidia is partnered with Nintendo, one could speculate that there is a custom solution for the Switch.
Not saying there’s anything to this.

Is paper Mario worth full price for a person who hasn’t enjoyed a paper Mario since thousand year door? (really loved thousand year door)
I couldn’t say definitively, but word on the street is ‘no’ - if you didn’t like the others you probably won’t like this either.
It’s a good game, but much more a linear adventure than an evolution of the thousand year door RPG style.
I don’t think Paper Mario is very good. Graphics and music are great. The puzzle combat gets old pretty quick and there’s very little variety to it as the game progresses. The rest of the game is mostly just wandering around hitting toads with your hammer and grabbing meaningless collectibles (a park bench, a stapler). It’s almost ok as a pure adventure exploration game and the Mario wrapper helps, but it just doesn’t try hard enough to be worthwhile.
Yeah, I’m kind of running out of steam with it. It all just feels so pointless, because there’s no real progression*. Everything just gives you coins, there’s not a whole lot you can buy with them, and besides you’re quickly swimming in coins. The collectibles are a real punch in the face. “Haha! You went to all that effort and thought you found something useful! Nope. It’s a paperweight.”
The writing is good, to be fair, so if you just want an exploration adventure game in the Mario universe, it’s OK. But then the other stuff gets in the way.
* this isn’t strictly true, but 90% of the progression is just “You got far enough in the story, so here’s some more health and power, but also the enemies have more health and power”. Even the upgraded weapons you come across are time-limited.
Less than PS4 Pro. 4K for Switch makes the most sense for video streaming apps, but they still haven’t got Netflix or Disney Plus or HBO Max or CBS or…
Very excited about the Taiko No Tatsujin news from the latest Direct. Can’t say the other games were particularly inspiring.
