I could definitely see local WiFi as an option, I didn’t expect it to be the only one. At one point in the commercial after the second kid shows up they both sit on the couch and look at the tv. But when I looked again the tv only had one screen on it. I guess the girl was just using the force.

I was excited to have this as a retail release, but it’s even better as a free SNES game! I’m actually impressed.

Yeah I have no idea why they would make this a limited-edition release, especially since it’s digital. I’m pretty sure that they will sell the games individually after that. It makes no sense not to. Either way, day one purchase for me, just for Super Mario Galaxy alone!

The only person you’re hurting is yourself.

They didn’t have narration for this part, but I imagine it would be something like, “Hey, people with hardwood floors! Have we got a game for you…!”

Not really. I own all the games anyway.

My kids made me hook up the Wii, but then lost interest in it pretty quick. I started playing Super Mario Galaxy though.

It might be worth getting Super Mario 64. I loaned my N64 to a family member years ago and never bothered asking for it back. Getting it, plus figuring out how to connect it to a modern TV, and hoping the hardware all still works… probably easier just to buy it for Switch. My kids should play it.

Mine would be…launch the Wii U, make sure the Wiimote has batteries, try to remember if Super Mario 64 is in the Wii U menu or the Wii menu (launch into Wii mode if it’s there), find the Classic Controller and connect it to the Wiimote, launch the game.

I mean, it’s doable, but that’s a lot of steps!

(And my steps for Super Mario Sunshine would be: Find the Gamecube disc!)

I never played Mario Sunshine (or owned a GameCube) but I thought I read it used analog triggers for the water gun that the Switch doesn’t have, or something. Do we know how that’s handled?

Yeah it seems like they have to have some sort of workaround. IIRC there’s definitely some puzzles that need the mechanic of analog control over the sprayer.

Also, no one has mentioned the BOWSER’S FURY addition to Super Mario 3D World, which honestly is the thing I’m most excited about from the entire announcement!

No real info yet. You should get a GameCube sometime. Best system I’ve ever owned.

I’m curious if there will be a re-evaluation of Sunshine, which seems to be the most disliked of the 3d Marios.

Also, the Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch!

All I have ever wanted is a video game where Mario can be attacked by my cats, and it is all coming true.

Nice! That’s the only Wii U game I wanted. When I eventually get a Switch Pro, I’m looking forward to this.

Yeah, Mario Sunshine is the only game I want in this trio of games coming out together. I’ve played through Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy multiple times. And I have both on my Wii, so I could always replay them there. But I do wonder how they’ll handle Mario Sunshine. The reason I had so much trouble with it on Gamecube is because the horizontal camera was flipped. I wonder if they’ll allow us to invert the horizontal camera this time? I just couldn’t get through the beginning of the game because I was always turning the camera away from the direction I had to turn towards.

It’s a really good one! Doesn’t quite reach the heights of the Mario Galaxy titles but it’s up there and I certainly enjoyed it more than Odyssey.

Yeah MK supported four player split screen on one Switch, albeit at half framerate…

I would assume here that one Switch just can’t handle controlling two (or more) Karts and processing their camera inputs simultaneously.

A shame because it looks sooo awesome for the kids. Maybe they have a bundle including a Kart with a Switch Lite lol…

Players place gates to create a custom course layout in their home, where the only limit is their imagination.

I am wondering if a flat play area is also a limit, or whether you can make slopes/jumps?

You drop down those four checkpoint gate things, and then drive between them to create a circuit. That’s it. You can see it in the video where the Kart gets paint slopped onto it’s wheels, it’s ‘painting’ the course.

Unsure what the two additional arrow markers they give you are for.

Mine and my girlfriend’s reaction to Mario Kart Live was the same: wow, look at all that space.

That’s good. I wasn’t sure if the AR system was generating the course using AI to interpret walls, or if it was like you describe. Of course, that does mean you can mess up the course if you don’t drive it well.
