Yeah, I’m considering getting Metroid Dread now that there is a baby mode. :)

Shit, I might go the other direction and give the one hit and boss rush modes a go. The game is just such a joy to play.

I can’t believe no one is talking about the biggest announcement: The Mario Kart Booster Course Pass, which is six packs of eight courses each, being released between now and 2023. The first pack is coming on March 18, with the other packs coming in the undisclosed future. Each pack contains remastered courses from previous Mario Kart games, plus the Mario Kart Tour mobile game. Once these are all released, Mario Kart 8 will have doubled the number of tracks!

And all this for the low low price of $24.99 (or free with the Nintendo Online Expansion Pack)!

The Expansion Pack doesn’t seem like very good value to me. For a family account, it’s an extra $40/year for some N64 and Sega games and access to the Animal Crossing and Mario Kart expansions which are $25 each. After a year, seems like it’s not worth it. Am I missing something?

Not really. It’s good, or at least OK, value if you were going to get the DLC anyway and either you think you’ll continue to play the retro games for many years, or you would only play the DLC for one year. In almost any other circumstances it’s pretty bad value (terrible value for me, in terms of the retro selection).

Anyone else try out the new Triangle Strategy demo? I’m interested in finishing this demo since the save will carry over. The combat system seems like it’s got enough depth to stay interesting and I love the HD 2D look or whatever it’s called. But wow is this a jrpg stereotype when it comes to just throwing nonstop dialog at you. Played for over an hour last night and that consisted of one 15-20 minute battle and then 40 minutes of talking.

I tried the demo last night and decided to watchbtv after doing nothing except listen to about 10 minutes of talking. I’m guesstimating the time because it was probably only actually 5 minutes but felt like 20. So I’m sticking with 10.

If you have multiple people in the family who would each be buying their own copy of the expansion, the subscription starts to look like a much better deal.

I think the idea is that they will periodically add DLC that continues to make the Expansion Pack worth it. If you’re getting $50 worth of DLC for $40 right now, it’s worth it right now.

Yeah, I didn’t buy the expansion because I don’t care about N64 or Sega games.

But yeah, I want the Mario Kart tracks. So maybe I pay $40. The value for me is $25 for the tracks, $15 for Paper Mario.

You mean the N64 Paper Mario that you get to play? That brings me to my real question. Can you buy the N64 games you want instead of just having the Expansion subscription to access them? Like I owned Mario 64 and Sin and Punishment on the Wii (though I never got to play them).

Yeah, the N64 Paper Mario interests me because I really liked 1000 Year Door.

No, you can’t buy them separately.

So on my birthday I splurged on myself and got both Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and Victor Vran.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is a confusing thing, as I’ve not clicked with the controls yet, but I am enjoying it. Victor Vran is also a lot of fun in the more traditional Diablo mold.

Switch is turning into quite the little ARPG machine for me.

Just skim the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 thread and read every post by @tomchick. It will do wonders for your game!

Or just say “Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3” three times in a mirror and Tom will appear behind you and give you advice.

When I’ve consistently played this I’ve gotten ‘sorta ok’ at best. But, like you, I’ve always enjoyed my time. Even when I hit walls that take me forever to get past. I think my main issue is not noticing the onscreen queues for when to do things as much as not having the muscle memory to actually do them.

The important thing to realize about Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is that there are no Eternals in it. Zero. Zilch. Not even Kingo’s valet. It’s as if the Eternals don’t even exist.

The other important thing to realize about Marvel Ultimate Allliance 3 is that it’s not just a glib MMO like Marvel Heroes Online. Instead, it’s a moderately serious brawler by Team Ninja in which you have to manage enemy stagger bars. Among other things, but the stagger bars will be a barrier if you try to play this by just punching something until it dies. That way leads to frustration, madness, and going back to Victor Vran without appreciating what you’re missing.

Basically, it’s a game where you really need to read the manual at some point. And by manual, I mean the help/tips section under the pause menu. Anything confusing you is likely answered in there. Good luck, Rubin! Metropolis is counting on you!

God I had no idea that was there, thank you. Great job onboarding new players, game.

That’s a good point. We just have the one Switch that everyone shares, however, so I assume we only need one copy of each expansion.

Look, this is the Marvel Universe. It’s serious business. No one is going to hold your hand for you. You want to learn how Ghost Rider and Elektra work together? Better crack those books!

Okay this got me!

Do I understand correctly people consider Diablo 3 and Marvel Uber Advancement to be the best mindless looter games for handheld gaming?

I’ve got myself Torchlight 2. Played it on PC on release but it was sold for a spare change so why not. I also see Titan Quest on sale but I hear conflicting things about the quality of port. And in general I’m not sure if it’s Classic or Archaic.
