Seems like it could work. Too bad he just died.
Combat system looks funky. Can’t tell if it’s gimmicky or strategic just yet though.
Periodically I find myself thinking, “self, I would like to play Monster Rancher on a current gaming platform”. Fingers crossed for a NA release.
Quote: “Monster Farm 2” will be available on Switch and smartphones in autumn 2020!
Also, I found out Monster Rancher the first got released on Switch in Japan in December.
And you should check the game frame game thread for another threat related to that (somewhat).
Monster Farm/Monster Rancher 2 is probably the best of the series, so now I’m really hoping we get that in an English version.

Yes, Monster Rancher and new Power Pro Baseball are at the top of my Switch wish list.
Would it have been so much trouble to just port Thousand Year Door, Nintendo?
And why has there not been a port of the original Super Mario RPG? I’m sure Nintendo and Squeenix can work something out.
Nintendo makes new games, gamer complains why don’t they re-release old ones. Nintendo re-releases old games, gamer complains why don’t they make new ones.
Your post is why Nintendo cannot ever win with their “fans”.
That’s not the only way to read his post though. There are Nintendo fans that are disappointed in the direction the Paper Mario series has taken—shifting away from its RPG roots.
That’s a specific and reasonable opinion to have.
Oh, but Nintendo has already won with me. I’ve owned every Nintendo handheld since the first Gameboy and most of the home systems and am loving the Switch Lite.
WhollySchmidt is correct: the series has gotten further away from its 16bit RPG roots with each release. Though i wasn’t exactly complaining about the release of the new game, just wishing they would port those other ones.
I can’t figure out if the new Paper Mario is something I should pick up or not. There’s so much baggage in the public opinion around this game for not being a “true RPG”, but I don’t care at all about that. I’m unclear if the puzzle style combat is actually fun and interesting, or a gimmick that wears out its welcome before long.
All the commentary has been that it’s more on the gimmick side. I’m less worried about the new mechanic, so much as that apparently it’s all hammers and jumps apart from battle-specific powers.
I’d be more interested if the combat weren’t timed.
Nintendo did an eight-minute-long Direct Mini this morning, highlighting third-party stuff. There’s a bunch of DLC and a physical edition coming for Cadence of Hyrule, but the big games I care about are the 2021 simultaneous worldwide release of Shin Megami Tensei V and the announcement of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster for spring 2021.
Yeah, it was nice to get an update on SMT V and to find out Nocturne is coming! Maybe I’ll actually play it this time around! (I have the PS2 game and strategy guide but was so busy back then I never played it)
Good stuff! Some people were losing faith and expecting a cancelation.
Other things I saw about these is that the wording indicates the SMT III remaster will release first, so SMT V won’t be out before Spring. And III is also coming to PS4.
A Nocturne Remaster is awesome news indeed!
I’m hoping the III remaster at least will make it to PC. If it’s not a Nintendo exclusive, the recent success of P4 Golden on Steam would seem to make it a no-brainer. But I wasn’t expecting that one, and Nocturne’s not as accessible, so…who knows.
