No Hands...the Everything (Football|Soccer|Footie|Futbol) Thread

It seems fair to lay most of the direct blame for the current debacle on Klinsmann, who’s whole managing history pointed to predicting exactly what happened. He’s already gone. The bigger question now is will we be able to get rid of Gulati?

Meanwhile, news from the US players who actually win. 20 NWSL players have been called up to the women’s national team for friendlies later this month. Seven of those come from the top two sides, the North Carolina Courage and my Portland Thorns, who will be playing this weekend for the championship.

The Thorns won! 1-0 over North Carolina for their second NWSL championship.

There was a scary moment in the second half when Heath went down, but she was able to continue so presumably it wasn’t serious.

Interesting under-the-hood insight in the latest issue of Der Spiegel As you know, Lionel Messi had signed a new contract at Barca last year, an the magazine’s journalists now got ahold of details through their sources. In case you ever were curious about the extra mile that Barca went to keep the best of the best.

  • €63.5m one-time bonus for signing the new contract
  • €71m guaranteed annual salary
  • bonus: should he actually stay at Barca until the end of the contract (season 2021/22) and participate in at least 60% of the competetive fixtures.the average annual salary will end up being €106m.
  • winning the UEFA Champions League will yield a €12m bonus (per title)

The maximum income Messi could net would be €122m with all add-ons in a given year assuming the honors his contracts, wins the Ballon d’or, Champions League and the league cup. Of course, all his personal marketing deals and sponsorships come on top of that.

So Zlatan went to the Galaxy and took out a full page ad in the LA Times that just said “You’re welcome.”

Then yesterday on his debut…

As part of this game between the LA Galaxy and the new LA FC.

The best part of the LA rivalry is the name: El Trafico.

Mohamed freaking Salah!

‘If the champions league final will not come to Muhammad, then Muhammad must go to the champions League final’

Of course, as soon as I post that Roma scores two away goals…

Yep, everything that is wrong with Liverpool summoned up by those 2 late goals

Roma are good at beating decent teams 3-0 at home. Could be an interesting second leg.

Football fans, they take this stuff seriously.

Breaking news: Zidane hanging it up as manager of Real Madrid. Just won his third straight Champions League title. Going out on top.

That takes great skill.

Speaking of skill, Aston Villa have been on a bit of a run recently, we actually play good football these days as well.

Anyway, this goal takes skill. From Whelan’s delivery to Grealish’s volley.

A win against Rotherham today should go a long way towards securing a playoff spot.

Hope so! Still Rotherham are a good direct side so I a not taking anything for granted.

Dean Smith has given us some damn fine entertainment this season though. We play very attacking football these days.

edit: welp thats a loss in the making. Sigh. Football.

edit. wow. 7 in a row.

A comeback away win coming from being a goal down and after being reduced to 10 men.

Not bad at all :)

Maybe they are a team of destiny. It would be a good thing to have Villa back in the top flight.

Cheers! Fwiw the only thing I miss about the Prem is the money. Lots of great football this season in the Championship. Bielsa’s Leeds & Norwich play some very good football indeed. Not very hopeful we are coming up this year but enjoying the ride :)

Lionel Messi is quite good at football. Now with 600 examples.
