So after an internet deep dive I may have found a way to walk through this quest for players, like me, who want to restore their pre-NEXT base. It seems that even with the new “fix” quest in place, the only way to restore a pre-NEXT base is from a Habitable Base in the wild. A Habitable Base used to be a round base building, and fairly easy to spot from the air as they were almost always in large flat areas of the landscape. Post-NEXT however, a “Habitable Base” in the wild is literally a lone base computer sitting out in the open…no structures, no supplies, nothing. Obviously that is A LOT more difficult to spot while flying around.
They should still be in fairly open, flat areas though, so start by finding somewhere like that on the planet you want to restore your base on. Now, if you have the new quest active, and you’re flying over an area like that, chances are you’ll get the notification “Suitable Base Site Discovered” or something like that. When you see that notification, LAND. The quest text makes it seem like you need to scan from the air, but this doesn’t work. You need to land your ship, hop out, and use your suit scanner, then VISOR to look all around you. In your visor view you’ll see the little blue house icons that represent habitable structures. Hover over each one in range of you, and if you’re lucky, you’ll see the description change to Habitable Base. That’s where you will find the Base Computer, and once at the Base Computer, there will be a menu item on it to restore your archived base.
If you don’t see Habitable Base using your visor, you may be too far out of range. Try deploying your Signal Booster, then choose to feed it a Navigation Data, and then search for Habitable Base (Outpost). This should highlight the location of a habitable structure nearby, however these can include alien outposts, so it may take several scans to find the actual base computer. It may show up on the scan as “Shelter”…look at it through your visor and that should change if it’s the base computer.
All of this is second hand info compiled from various threads around the internet. I have not had a chance to try it yet myself, though when I logged out I was near a “suitable location” so it’s the first thing I’m going to do later today. I’ll update the thread if I’m successful, or if anyone else uses this method successfully, please let us know.

TIL people still play games with VSYNC on.

Not me! I’m a gsync snob I guess, but even before that tech I still turned it off. Screen tearing was always easier on my eyes that the framerate issues vsync introduces.
I pretty much always used to before I got a G-Sync monitor. I cannot stand screen tearing.
Xbox One version:
My save data isn’t working. It keeps restarting me on a brand new planet, regardless of which of my existing saves I select from the title screen, and regardless if I reload this morning’s auto/manual save data from in-game rather than title screen.
All the time stamps are right on the saves, but selecting them just starts me over.
I have an embarrassing amount of time in the game so far this week, and I’m annoyed right now.
PS4 patch is deployed. XBox patch might come out today after all.
Timex, thanks, that is the exactly the detailed post I needed to do this. Much appreciated.
Looks like the performance mode with the 30fps cap is the way to go on the One X:
It does otherwise support true 4K and HDR if you want the best image quality.
Well, at least the fixes are coming in quickly. That’s good.
Thanks for the heads up. Time to patch up and give it a try tonight.
Well the patch did nothing to fix my crashing on save load. Guess I’m done with this game for now.
Sad to hear that. :(
I hope next one fixes everything and you can enjoy it again soon enough.
On another topic, can you guys build storage containers inside buildings? It used to work fine in previous builds, but now I’m stuck putting them outside in sub-zero cold. Maybe it’s because I only have wooden cubic rooms? I don’t have the cubic metal rooms which “used” to be really easy to get.
Latest experimental build is up for PC: https://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/0/1762481957317265288/
Among the fixes:
Fixed an issue where players would not know the Blueprint Analyser after upgrading their save
And as soon as I posted that, I managed to fix it by selecting Join a Random Game and joining some random guy’s multiplayer game. Weird, but glad to be playing again.
Thanks for the replies about the XBOX fan not being an issue – likely going to take the plunge!
Lol they have QA? ;)
I think people look at what Hello Games achieved here and forget how small their team is. They averaged 6 employees for the launch version. Now I think they have 20 or so? Out of those they have maybe one or two QA people.
